Gamified App on Increasing Physical Activity and Reducing Anxiety in Autism
Autism Spectrum DisorderPhysical Activity2 moreBackground: Physical activity (PA) has an impact on physical and mental health in neurotypical populations, and addressing these variables may improve the prevalent burden of anxiety in adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Gamified mobile apps using behavior change techniques present a promising way of increasing PA and reducing sedentary time, thus reducing anxiety in adults with ASD. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a gamified and behavior change technique-based mobile app, PuzzleWalk, versus a commercially available app, Google Fit, on increasing PA and reducing sedentary time as an adjunct anxiety treatment for this population. Methods: A total of 24 adults with ASD were assigned to either the PuzzleWalk or Google Fit group for 5 weeks using a covariate-adaptive randomization design. PA and anxiety were assessed over 7 days at 3 different data collection periods (ie, baseline, intervention start, and intervention end) using triaxial accelerometers and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. Group differences in outcome variables were assessed using repeated-measures analysis of covariance, adjusting for age, sex, and BMI.
Brain Hero® Neurofeedback Training (With the Device Brainhero 2019, Type 201)

The personalisation relies on quantitative electroencephalography recordings performed in a clinic, which are also used to evaluate the efficiency of the home-based training, along with standardized questionnaires. The active phase is expected to last roughly 6 months, during which children are expected to complete multiple hours of training and complete an interim evaluation. Whether the training's effects are long lasting is evaluated in a follow-up phase, 3 months after the active phase.

Evaluation of Social ABCs With Attention Training Intervention for Toddlers With Suspected Autism...
Autism Spectrum DisorderThe Social ABCs is an evidence-based, developmentally informed, caregiver-mediated behavioural intervention for toddlers with suspected or confirmed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is based on principles of Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT, grounded in Applied Behaviour Analysis), and responsive parenting. The two key targets of this program are functional verbal communication and positive caregiver-child affect sharing. This intervention takes place in the context of play and daily routines, and in all contexts is made to be fun, natural and motivating for the child. In both a pilot study and a recently completed randomized control trial, toddlers whose caregivers received training in the Social ABCs intervention showed significant gains in early language development (both responsivity and initiations), increased child smiling (mediated by parent smiling), and a trend toward increased social orienting (one important manifestation of social attention). Despite the social-communication benefits demonstrated through the Social ABCs, the research team is also motivated to foster the attentional abilities of toddlers with emerging ASD in response to compelling evidence that early attentional control abilities may play a central role in the emergence of ASD. Based on this knowledge, the current study targets not only social-communication challenges and affect sharing (as per the existing Social ABCs intervention), but also attentional control in toddlers with suspected or confirmed ASD. Using a structured, computerized attention-training protocol, this RCT evaluates the impact of supplementing the standard Social ABCs intervention with pre-intervention attentional control training.

The major objective of the study is to test GOLIAH during a 6-month matched controlled exploratory study were to assess (1) the usefulness and acceptability of the gaming platform; (2) how experimental children performed using the different Imitation and JA games; and (3) whether children from the experimental group improved significantly more than children treated as usual (control group).
Combination Treatment for Augmenting Language in Children With ASD
Autism Spectrum DisorderThe study will consist of two main elements: the enrollment of 72 children aged 6-11 years with ASD and low language competency to receive a thrice-weekly one hour language intervention for 12 weeks; and, beginning at the same time, subjects will be equally randomized to receive either aripiprazole (Abilify) (flexibly dosed from 2-10 mg per day) or placebo for 12 weeks.
