Transition Support Program for Young Adults With Autism Spectrum Disorders

This study investigates a service delivery model to better support young adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in the transition from school to the community. The effectiveness of the "McGill Transition Support Program", a small-group format intervention (meeting once a week for 2 hours over 10 weeks) focusing on communication, self-determination and working with others skills, is measured by multiple pre- and post-program-assessments in a "staggered enrollment trial", a variant of a randomized controlled trial (RCT).

The Effect of Individualised Homoeopathic Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Children

Autism Spectrum Disorder

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of individualised homoeopathic treatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).This study is of descriptive case study design, with a structured interview and quantitative measurement components taking place over 12 weeks, with a consultation every 4 weeks. Children aged 3-6 years of age with ASD are invited to participate and their parent/guardian is required to be present during each consultation. Each consultation will consist of a homoeopathic case taking, conduction of the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) and Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) measures and a brief physical exam. After each consultation, the participant will receive an individualised homoeopathic remedy, according to their individual symptoms and characteristics, to take for the subsequent 4 weeks. This remedy will be determined using the Mercurius® repertory software.

Open Label Clinical Trial of Vitamin D in Children With Autism

Primary: to investigate tolerability of interventional high dose Vitamin D3 supplementation, titrated to reach serum levels near the high end of the reference range (30-100 ng/ml), in vitamin D deficient pediatric Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) patients. The study will determine if initial safety and effect estimates predict that a double blind randomized control trial (RCT) with a larger set of patients will be worthwhile in the localization of this treatment aimed at improving the symptoms of ASDs. Exploratory: to determine efficacy of high dose D3 replacement for improvement in the core symptoms of autism, including sociability, eye contact, anger outbursts, stimming behavior, and sleep, as determined by parental and clinical evaluation scales.

Sensory Adapted Dental Environment to Enhance Oral Care for Children With ASD

The goal of this project is to collect information that will support a later clinical trial on the effectiveness of a specially adapted dental environment for children who have difficulty tolerating oral care in the dental clinic. We hypothesize that adapting the sensory environment in the dental office by modifying the sounds, sights, smells and tactile experiences will result in decreased anxiety, increased cooperation, and fewer behavior problems for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and to a lesser extent for typically developing children especially those who have dental anxieties. This has the potential contribute to increased child comfort as well as safer, more efficient, and less costly treatment for a large population, as potentially more than one-fourth of all children may benefit from a sensory adapted dental environment.

Autologous Umbilical Cord Blood Infusion for Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

This study is a prospective phase 1 single-center trial designed to determine the safety of a single intravenous infusion of autologous umbilical cord blood in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and assess the feasibility of various outcome measures to determine which measure(s) can be used as primary and secondary endpoints for a future randomized phase 2 clinical trial. All subjects will receive infusion of cord blood cells at baseline with follow up assessments at 6 and 12 months.

Study of Oxytocin in Autism to Improve Reciprocal Social Behaviors

The purpose of this research study is to learn about the effects of supplemental intranasal oxytocin as a treatment for improving social difficulties in children and adolescents with autism. This study will also provide additional information about the safety and tolerability of intranasal oxytocin. Investigators expect oxytocin will increase social motivation, improving daily living skills and quality of life.

A multi-site randomized study of intensive treatment for toddlers with autism involving a three-site collaborative network plus a data coordinating center to evaluate the effects of intervention intensity and intervention style delivered for 12 months, on the progress of very young children with ASD ages 12-30 months old and their families, and the effect of children's developmental rates and autism severity on their response to intervention.
