Early Screening of Emotional, Behavioral and Autism Spectrum Disorders in Children With Functional...
Functional ConstipationEmotional Problems3 moreA significant group of children with functional constipation (FC) continues to have symptoms despite recommended standard therapy. Underlying psychiatric problems could explain therapy resistance. However, a work-up for psychiatric problems is only recommended after unsuccessful 6 months standard therapy. Earlier detection and check-up could lead to faster start-up of a more adequate therapy. Therefore, we investigate the prevalence of emotional, behavioural and social problems in the FC-population at the first contact with a paediatric gastroenterologist in a tertiary care hospital.
Iterative Redesign of a Behavioral Skills Training Program for Use in Educational Settings
Autism Spectrum DisorderDisruptive BehaviorThis study proposes to redesign the RUBI Parent Training program, a low-intensity intervention for youth with autism spectrum disorder and disruptive behavior, for use by school personnel in the classroom. Using a mixed-methods approach, 40 school staff members from 20 elementary schools will be recruited to inform current classroom behavior management practices and RUBI redesign needs.
Microbiome and Mycobiome Registry of Volunteers With and Without Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum DisorderAnalyze, describe, and understand how the human gut microbiome (i.e. bacteriome and mycobiome) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are related.
Activities of Daily Living Participation Characteristics Among School-Aged Children With Autism...
Autism Spectrum DisorderThis study aimed to investigate the performance of activities of daily living (ADL) among 53 children ages 6-10 years: 17 with high-severity ASD (HS-ASD), 16 with low-severity ASD (LS-ASD), and 20 controls with typical development. Methods: The assessment combined a parent-reported questionnaire (the Participation in Childhood Occupation; PICO) alongside the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI self-care) and Performance-based task, the Washing Hands Structured Observation (WashHO).
Participant(s) With Autism and High Pain Tolerance Treated With High Dose Naltrexone
Autism Spectrum DisorderHigh dose naltrexone with response gauged by pain tolerance as measured by the cold pressor test may help treat autism.
Extracellular Signal-Related Kinase Biomarker Development in Autism
Autism Spectrum DisordersThe purpose of this research study is to establish a way to help the development of targeted treatments in autism spectrum disorders. This may also help in early diagnosis of autism and may possibly predict severity. The study will compare subject's ERK (extracellular signal-related kinase) signaling to age- and gender-matched neurotypical controls and Intelligence quotient (IQ)-matched developmental disabilities.
Emotional and Change-related Attention in Autism
Autism Spectrum DisordersSeveral studies seem to indicate that emotional attention and change-related attention are impaired in ASD. The goal of this study is to identify the relationships between those two types of automatic attention in visual and auditory modalities in subjects with ASD compared to healthy controls and also, over the course of development (children, adults). In order to achieve this goal, the investigators will use complementary techniques (EEG and MRI-based techniques (fMRI, DTI)).
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Driving Study
Autism Spectrum DisorderThe proposed pilot study will begin to assess whether driving impairments are included in the functional deficits associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). This will be completed by obtaining data on velocity, collision risk, and visual attention of subjects with ASDs who drive in a simulator. The study includes 2-3 visits for the screening period (approximately 6 hours of assessments) and one driving simulation visit (approximately 2.5 hours). The investigators expect to enroll 20 adolescents and adults (ages 16-50, inclusive) who have been identified as having an ASD from a prior diagnosis or participation in community conferences for individuals with ASDs.
Examining Social, Emotional, and Cognitive Functioning in People With Fragile X and Down Syndromes...
Anxiety DisordersChild Developmental Disorders1 moreBy testing physiological responses to anxiety in people with nervous system developmental disorders, this study will identify specific physiological characteristics associated with response to anxiety treatments.
Genetics, Brain Structure and Thinking Skills in Autism
Autism Spectrum DisordersThe purpose of this research is to better understand the genetic, biochemical, cognitive and behavioral symptom abnormalities that contribute to autism spectrum disorders. The investigators anticipate recruiting at least 100 participants with autism spectrum disorder and large head size, at least 100 participants with autism spectrum disorder without large head size and at least 40 healthy siblings. Biological parents are expected to be recruited only as genetic changes are identified in individuals with autism spectrum disorders to better understand the nature of these genetic changes. Participants are asked to complete cognitive testing, a blood draw, urine collection and measurement of his/her height, weight and head circumference. Parents or caregivers may be asked to complete a diagnostic evaluation and will complete questionnaires that examine the participant's medical and family history as well as his/her current symptoms, functioning, and quality of life. A brief report simply listing and giving a basic description of any behavioral diagnostic information, autism symptoms, adaptive functioning, and a listing of results from cognitive testing will be provided as part of this study.
