Pharmacokinetic Comparison of Intradermal Versus Sub-cutaneous Insulin and Glucagon Delivery in...

Type 1 Diabetes

The investigators are doing this research study to find out if the type of needle used to administer them affects the speed with which insulin and glucagon get into the blood. The investigators will compare a traditional insulin needle to an injection device, called the MicronJet, that uses microneedles to deliver medication into the top layer of your skin.

Immunointervention With Calcitriol in New-Onset Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

This is a randomized, two-arm, placebo-controlled phase-2 trial to determine whether the daily intake of 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3], improves beta cell function in patients with recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes. The treatment consists of the daily oral administration of 0.25 µg 1,25(OH)2D3 or placebo for 9 months and an equal follow-up time without supplementation. Fasting, peak and AUC C-peptide concentrations during a 2-hour mixed meal tolerance test are measured at the beginning of the study, as well as at the end of the treatment and the follow-up period in month 9 and 18. The null hypothesis is that there is no difference between 1,25(OH)2D3 treated subjects and the placebo group in the AUC C-peptide at month 18.

Rapamycin Versus Mycophenolate Mofetil in Kidney-Pancreas Recipients

Type 1 Diabetes

This study was designed to determine which maintenance immunosuppressive agent, rapamycin or mycophenalate mofetil, resulted in better outcome in patients with type 1 diabetes and renal failure, who presented for a kidney-pancreas transplant.

Pediatric Atorvastatin in Diabetes Intervention Trial (PADIT)

Type 1 Diabetes MellitusType 2 Diabetes Mellitus

The purpose of this study is to determine if Atorvastatin can improve blood vessel stiffness and blood vessel function in children 10-18 years old with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Subjects will receive atorvastatin 20mg or placebo daily for 3 months and will then switch therapies for the next 3 months. Hypothesis: Atorvastatin will improve blood vessel function by decreasing arterial stiffness and improving blood flow.

T1D Risk Assessment in Kids With Relatives

Type 1 Diabetes

The purpose of this study is to determine whether early immunological markers (activation of autoreactive T lymphocytes) precede and are predictive of the appearance of autoantibodies in children born from type 1 diabetic parents.

Comparing Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion With Multiple Daily Injections to Reach HbA1c...

Diabetes Mellitus Type 1

This study is to compare metabolic control, treatment satisfaction, and quality of life during continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII ) therapy with a new insulin pump system with multiple daily injections (MDI) therapy. Furthermore, this study will add clinical data originating from clinical investigation in a special population, i.e. children and adolescents of ages 2 - 17 years , to the existing clinical data of the ACCU-CHEK Insight insulin pump.

A Trial Investigating the Effect of Acute Hypoglycaemia on Cognitive Function and Brain Activation...

DiabetesDiabetes Mellitus1 more

This trial is conducted in Europe. The aim of the trial is to compare cognitive function and associated brain activation patterns during an acute hypoglycaemic episode and during euglycaemia (normal blood glucose concentration). Additionally, the purpose is to assess cognitive function in the recovery phase after hypoglycaemia or euglycaemia, respectively, in subjects with type 1 diabetes.

Gluten Immunity and Islet Autoimmunity in Type-1 Diabetes

Type 1 DiabetesCeliac Disease

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the immune response causing celiac disease is related to the autoimmune response causing type-1 diabetes.

Isometric Handgrip Exercise -MRI in Children and Adolescents

Type 1 Diabetes MellitusCoronary Artery Disease

This project aims to assess coronary vessel response to isometric handgrip exercise (IHE) during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in children with T1D children and healthy controls. The investigators will compare the groups in terms of surrogate markers of intima media alteration and arterial stiffness, i.e. carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV).

MSC Administration for the Management of Type 1 Diabetic Patients

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the administration of multipotent stromal cell also referred as to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), modified Type 1 Diabetes progression.
