Ayurvedic medicine has been practiced in for more than 2,500 years. Ashwagandha is one of the most widely utilized herbs in the system. It is thought to affect the endocrine, immune, nervous, and cardiopulmonary systems. This study is designed as a preliminary investigation of the effects of Ashwagandha on stress, inflammation, and immune modulation. Participants will take the liquid extract in cow's milk twice a day for five days. The results of initial, one-day, and final blood draws will be compared to determine participant's beginning and ending levels of cortisol, inflammatory cytokines, and immune-cell activation (CD4 T-cells, CD8 T-cells, B cells and natural killer cells). Measurements will be completed using flow cytometry and ELISA assay. The purpose of this study is to determine which effects of Ashwagandha are most suitable for further investigation.

The intent of this clinical study is to answer the questions: Is the proposed treatment safe Is treatment effective in improving the disease pathology of patients with Multiple Sclerosis and clinical outcomes?

In the Netherlands, the human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination will be added to the National Vaccination Program for girls to protect against the development of cervical cancer. The vaccine protects against HPV type 16 & 18, which cause about 75% of cervical cancer. Studies have shown that the vaccine is effective in healthy subjects in preventing infection by HPV 16 & 18. However, no evidence exists on the immunogenicity and safety of HPV vaccination in patients with an immune system disorder, such as primary humoral immunodeficiency (i.e. hypogammaglobulinemia) or autoimmune diseases. Concerns exist that vaccination may cause an aggravation of the underlying disease. In addition, the immune response to vaccination may be diminished due to immunosuppressive therapy or the underlying disease. Objective: The primary goal of the current study is to study the immunogenicity of HPV vaccination in patients with an autoimmune disease and a primary humoral immunodeficiency. Based on retrospective analysis with other vaccines we hypothesize that patients with autoimmune diseases who are under immunosuppressive medication and patients with a immune system disorder have a decreased serological response to HPV vaccination, and that the produced HPV antibodies titers decrease more rapidly than in healthy individuals. The secondary objective is to explore safety of HPV vaccination and immune regulatory mechanisms induced by vaccination in a subset of patients. The investigators hypothesize that HPV vaccination is safe and that HPV-induced regulatory T cells are able to prevent an increase in the activity of an autoimmune disease.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether weaning to whey-based hydrolysed formula or essentially bovine insulin free whey-based FINDIA formula instead of standard cow's milk based formula is effective in the prevention of type 1 diabetes associated beta-cell autoimmunity in children at genetic risk of type 1 diabetes.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease with a large economic impact due to the long lasting disabling nature of the disease. Furthermore, diagnosis of the disease is difficult and only a scheme with different symptoms is used to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis, often only by probability. Due to the fact that effective disease modifying pharmacological treatment is available and should be started early in established cases of RA, in combination with the adverse effect potential of these substances (e.g. methotrexate), a fast reliable diagnostic tool to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis would be highly appreciated by the medical community and the patients. Furthermore, for invasive treatments (surgery, puncture), an imaging method to display the activity pattern in different joints would be a major advantage. For the evaluation of the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy in rheumatoid arthritis, up to now, radiological measurements of the destruction process of the joints are used. This method has the disadvantage that it is time consuming insofar as changes in the radiological images must occur. It allows only an evaluation if the joints are destructed (which should be excluded by the new therapy regimen). Again, a quantifiable method for the determination of the effects of new therapeutic approaches would be highly appreciated.

This is a study to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of V212 vaccine in adults with autoimmune disease, including participants with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, and other similar diseases. The primary hypothesis is that vaccination with V212 vaccine will elicit significant VZV-specific immune responses at approximately 28 days after vaccination 4. The statistical criterion for significance requires that the lower bound of the 2-sided 95% confidence interval of the geometric mean fold rise in vaccine recipients is >1.0.

This study aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability and PK of repeat dose administration of GSK2618960 in the treatment of pSS. The study will contain two parts, Part I will be open label and Part II will be randomized, double-blind. The minimum duration of Part I & Part II of the study will be 26 and 32 weeks respectively.

It is not known whether there is a different clinical profile of dengue in patients with immune system dysfunction. Preliminary data and previous literature suggest that autoimmune diseases, and in particular their treatment, may favour the evolution to severe forms of dengue. Our research hypothesis is that the clinico-biological presentation of dengue might be different in case of autoimmune disease, either on the side of overactivation (autoimmune and auto inflammatory diseases without treatment) or immunodepression (autoimmune and auto inflammatory diseases under immunosuppressive treatment).
