Psychoeducational Videos and Digital Assessments for BPD
Borderline Personality DisorderIn this study, 100 adults who were recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) will be randomized to either receive educational videos about BPD or educational videos about other topics. All participants in both conditions will complete daily surveys about their emotions and social interactions, and they will respond to surveys and complete cognitive tests at 4 different time points. Some participants will receive feedback about their cognitive test performance, and others will not. The investigators are interested in learning about how accurate education about BPD and enhanced knowledge about cognitive abilities might help people manage their BPD symptoms. The investigators expect that participants who received psychoeducation about BPD will have lower levels of BPD and depressive symptoms than other participants, and that participants who received feedback on their cognitive tests will also have lower symptoms.
COMpassion for Psychiatric Disorders And Self-Stigma
Bipolar DisorderSchizophrenia3 morePeople with mental disorders face frequent stigmatizing attitudes and behaviors from others . In response to this, they tend to isolate themselves, with the risk of impeding care and the process of recovery and integration into society . Stigmatization can also be assimilated by patients themselves - i.e. self-stigma. Self-stigma is involved in diminished coping skills that lead to social avoidance and difficulties in adhering to care . Reducing self-stigma and its emotional corollary, shame, is thus crucial to attenuate the disability associated with mental illness. Shame is inherent to self-stigma and leads to difficulties in adhering to care as well as greater severity of clinical presentations . Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a third wave cognitive behavioral therapy that targets shame reduction and hostile self-to-self relationship and allows for symptom improvement while increasing self-compassion, a major resilience factor . Although shame is a prominent part of the concept of self-stigma, the efficacy of CFT has never been evaluated in individuals with high levels of self-stigma. In this study, the investigators will evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of a group based CFT program on decreasing self-stigma, compared to treatment as usual (TAU) and a psychoeducation program whose efficacy has been assessed in a previous trial.
Cognitive Reappraisal Training for Borderline Personality
Borderline Personality DisorderPrevious work by the study group convinced the study team to pursue development of focused cognitive reappraisal training as a novel approach to treatment of BPD, either as stand-alone treatment or in concert with evidence-based treatments of BPD. The present proposal aims to refine and test a proposed clinical intervention for BPD patients, training in reappraisal-by-distancing, in terms of its ability to influence hypothesized neural and behavioral targets and, once that is established, to demonstrate its ability improve clinically relevant outcome measures.
Treatment of Acute Mood Depressive Episode in Borderline Personality Disorder With rTMS
Depressive DisorderMajor1 moreThis study evaluates the antidepressant effects of an accelerated schedule of theta-burst stimulation, termed accelerated intermittent theta-burst stimulation (aiTBS), in individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) or trait and comorbid mood depressive disorder (MDD) or bipolar II disorder in a current mood depressive episode (MDE).
Emotional Dysregulation in Para-suicidal Behavior
Self HarmSuicide3 moreThis is a naturalistic cohort pre-post study investigating aspects of emotional processing and how possible changes in emotional processing is related to the successful treatment of non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal ideation in a program of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In addition we wish to identify to what extent the intensity and frequency of non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal ideation is related to difficulty in emotion regulation, as indicated by self-report measures and psychophysiological measures.
Predictors of Clinical Course and Treatment Response in DBT Programmes
Self HarmBorderline Personality DisorderThe project is a collaboration between The National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NSSF) and clinical units with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programmes. A methodological and technological platform has been established that enables clinicians to deliver high quality treatments over extended periods of time, to evaluate their own performance and productivity and to report it in a uniform and systematic way that will enable comparison across clinical settings and programmes. The collected data constitute the basis for conducting the clinical study with the overall aim to study predictors of the clinical course and treatment response in patients admitted to DBT programmes in Norway.
DBT Skills Plus EMDR for BPD and Trauma
Borderline Personality DisorderTraumaBorderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a severe disorder that frequently co-occurs with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The comorbidity of BPD and PTSD is more disabling, predicting lower rates of BPD remission. Dialectical behavioral skills training (DBT-ST), is a group-delivered training that covers four types of skills: emotion regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance. As a stand-alone treatment, research suggest that DBT-ST is an efficacious treatment for BPD. In parallel, EMDR has emerged in last years as an efficacious approach to adult trauma. However, so far, the efficacy of EMDR to treat trauma in populations with BPD diagnosis has not been tested. The present pilot randomized-controlled clinical trial aims to test whether a combination of DBT-ST plus EMDR could be efficacious to treat trauma in individuals with BPD. 40 participants will be recruited from the BPD Unit at the Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau (Barcelona, Spain) and will be randomized (1:1) to DBT-ST + EMDR or DBT-ST alone. The primary outcome will be the reduction of PTSD symptoms. In addition, symptom-related variables will be collected before and after the interventions. This will be the first study to test the combination of DBT-ST and EMDR.
Caplyta in Borderline Personality Disorder
Borderline Personality DisorderThe primary objective of the proposed study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Caplyta (lumateperone) in adults with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Sixty subjects with BPD will be randomized in a 1:1 fashion to either Caplyta (42mg/day) or matching placebo for 8 weeks of active treatment. The hypothesis to be tested is that Caplyta will result in greater rates of reduction in symptoms of BPD compared to placebo (improvement in symptoms will be indicated by lower scores on established outcome measures of BPD symptoms that have been used in prior studies).
DBT Skills Expanded With Contextual Intervention for Long Lasting Symptoms in Borderline Personality...
Borderline Personality DisordersBPDAlthough borderline personality disorder (BPD) tend to the clinical remission in long-term follow-up studies, a significant subgroup of patients continues to present long lasting symptoms such as low mood, emptiness and persistent impairment in psychosocial adjustment. The prevalence of this subsample of individuals is considerably increasing last years. New interventions addressed to these individuals are need, the aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a novel intervention combining dialectical behavioral therapy skills training with self-compassion and contextual-based skills for patients with long-lasting BPD.
MICBT for Non-underweight Adults With Eating Disorders
Eating DisordersMaladaptive Personality Trait9 moreEating disorders (ED) are severe but treatable conditions, but there are large margin for improvements in terms of efficacy and adherence. There is room to explore new treatment options who are either more capable to retain patients in therapy, more effective. Alternative their efficacy may match the ones of current available treatments but offer new options to ones that did not respond to available therapies. Here the investigators explored if a combination of CBT-focused plus Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy (MIT) is an empirically supported therapy for personality disorders and could be a new viable treatment option for non-underweight ED. MIT targets some aspects of ED such as poor awareness of mental states and maladaptive interpersonal schemas that are not included in the transdiagnostic model underlying the most investigated empirically supported treatment for ED that is CBT-E. It is reasonable therefore that targeting these aspects of psychopathology can be a path to treatment adherence and effectiveness
