Chronic Low-back Pain

Low back pain is categorized according to its duration as acute (<6 weeks), sub-acute (6 weeks - 12 weeks) and chronic (>12 weeks). Low back pain can be either specific or non-specific. Specific low back pain is because of specific spinal pathologies including; Malignancy, Infection, Osteoporotic Collapse, Fracture, Ankylosing Spondylitis or other inflammatory disorders and Cauda equina compression. About 19 in 20 cases of acute (sudden onset) low back pain are classed as 'non-specific' It is called 'non-specific' because it is usually not clear what is actually causing the pain or there is no specific problem or disease that can be identified as to the cause of the pain.Functional Resistance Training (FRT) involves multiplanar and multi joint resistance exercises that simulate movement patterns from everyday life and sport Functional training exercises tend to focus more on the coordination, technique, posture, and core engagement instead of on training loads.

Prospective, Randomized Study of the Impact of a Education Program for Patients Suffering From Low...

Low Back Pain

According to the WHO, therapeutic education is intended to help patients acquire or maintain the skills they need to optimally manage living with a chronic disease. Low back pain is frequent and therapeutic education could be a promising option. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the impact of a therapeutic education program for patients suffering from low back pain.

Orphenadrine and Methocarbamol for LBP

Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a common cause of visit to emergency department. It is not clear if skeletal muscle relaxants are of benefit for patients with acute low back pain. This is a randomized study to determine if skeletal muscle relaxants, when combined with naproxen, improve outcomes more than naproxen alone

Effect of L-dopa In Subacute Back Pain Population

Sub-acute Back Pain

This study aims to determine if early treatment with Carbidopa/Levodopa and Naproxen in individuals with sub-acute back pain (SBP) is associated with changes in blocking transition to chronic back pain (CBP).

High-tone External Muscle Stimulation for Pain Reduction

Chronic Radicular Back PainLumboischialgia1 more

Sciatica is a common pain problem that affects not only the patient but also constitutes a socioeconomic burden and thus affects the whole society. So far, current pharmacologic therapies are inadequate for many patients. Therefore, we evaluated application of high-tone external muscle stimulation (HTEMS) compared to transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on radicular pain associated with sciatica.

Yoga for Chronic Low Back Pain and Its Mechanism of Action (YoMA)

Chronic Low Back Pain

This is a study to better understand how a yoga intervention helps improve symptoms in people with chronic low back pain. This study will be a 12-week intervention of about 24 participants with chronic low back pain where all individuals will receive weekly yoga classes and instructions for home practice. The purpose of this study is to collect feasibility data and to conduct preliminary analyses in preparation for a larger planned NIH study.

Treatment of Recent Onset Low Back Pain With Periradicular Injections of Meloxicam

Low Back Pain

This randomized, double-blind, placebo control, cross-over study tested the hypothesis that periradicular injections of Meloxicam would reduce recent onset low back pain and improve physical activity compared to saline injection at 3 months follow-up evaluation

Regional Manual Therapy and Motor Control Exercise for Chronic Low Back Pain

Low Back PainMusculoskeletal Pain

Purpose: The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the addition of thoracic, pelvic, and hip manual therapy to a standard physical therapy (PT) approach consisting of motor control exercises and lumbar spine manual therapy is better than standard PT alone at improving thoracolumbar spine range of motion (ROM), hip ROM, pain intensity, disability level, and perceived change in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) and movement coordination impairments. Hypothesis: In a CLBP subgroup with movement coordination impairments, participants receiving thoracic, pelvic, and hip manual therapy with standard PT will be superior to participants receiving standard PT alone at improving thoracolumbar spine ROM, hip ROM, pain intensity, physical disability level, and perceived change at two, four, and 12 weeks after initiating treatment.
