Efficacy of a Classification Based 'Cognitive Functional Therapy' in Nurses With Non Specific Chronic...

Chronic Low Back Pain

A series of case-studies to explore the efficacy of classification based cognitive functional physiotherapy according to the classification system proposed by Peter O'Sullivan in specific nursing population with non specific chronic low back pain. The investigators hypothesis was that treatment targeting the mechanisms behind the problem from a multidimensional perspective would be effective to reduce pain, disability and sick-leave.

Effects of Lumbopelvic Manipulation on Neuromuscular Activity of Back & Hip Muscles in Adults With...

Chronic Low Back Pain

The purposes of this study are: To examine the within-day and between-day test-retest reliability of a testing protocol measuring the back and hip muscles fatigability using EMG median frequency To examine the immediate and the carry-over effects of the lumbopelvic manipulation on the EMG median frequency of the lumbar multifidus (MULT), gluteus medius (GMED) and gluteus maximus (GMAX) muscles in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) To compare the fatigability levels of the MULT, GMED and GMAX muscles by measuring the EMG median frequency between the participants who will receive lumbopelvic manipulation. The research hypotheses are: The testing protocol using EMG median frequency as a fatigue indicator for MULT,GMED and GMAX muscles will have good (ICC ≥ 0.80) within-day and between-day test-retest reliability. The fatigability level of the MULT, GMED and GMAX muscles will significantly decrease immediately after the lumbopelvic manipulation and will be maintained over two to four days following the manipulation. The fatigability of the MULT, GMED and GMAX muscles will significantly decrease after the intervention in the manipulation group while no change will occur in the placebo group.

Interprofessional Rehabilitation for Adults With Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

The primary aim of the study is to analyse the long-term effectiveness of an interprofessional and interdisciplinary rehabilitation program named "PASTOR", with a biopsychosocial approach for participants with chronic non-specific low back pain (CLBP) compared to the standard inpatient multidisciplinary orthopaedic rehabilitation (MOR) in Germany. The investigators hypothesize that in adults with CLBP the rehabilitation program PASTOR would result in a significantly higher increase in functional ability 12 months after completion of the program in comparison to the standard inpatient MOR. The investigators further hypothesize that PASTOR would lead to significantly larger improvements regarding pain-related cognitions, pain coping strategies, physical activity, health-related quality of life, and back pain episodes compared to the standard inpatient MOR.

Abdominal Belt Use to Treat Low Back Pain

Chronic Low Back Pain

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of an abdominal belt in the treatment of chronic mechanical-postural low back pain. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was carried out, involving 60 consecutively selected patients with chronic low back pain randomly allocated to an intervention group (use of abdominal belt) and control group (non-use of abdominal belt). Patients were evaluated at the baseline of the study (T0) as well as 1 (T1), 3 (T3) and 6 months (T6) after the inclusion. The patients were assessed for: pain (VAS); functional capacity (Roland Morris), patient satisfaction (Likert scale); and number of anti-inflammatory pills ingested. Intention-to-treat analysis was also used. Hypothesis - abdominal belt will improve pain in chronic low back pain patients

Occurrence, Diagnosis and Treatment of Neck and Back Pain in Helicopter Pilots.

Low Back PainNeck Pain1 more

The purpose of this project is to investigate the occurrence of neck and back pain in a population of commercial helicopter pilots, and investigate factors related to the profession that can cause these problems. The project has a biological approach assessing the supporting and stabilizing muscles (multifidus) in pilots with chronic back and neck ailments. Pilots with low back problems are invited to a controlled intervention trial to investigate whether one can achieve improved spinal health with a rigid training régime. Primary trial outcome is improved neck and back multifidus muscles pathology and function as assessed by the extent of fat infiltration -as visualized on MRI - and the volume and ability of the lumbar multifidus muscles to contract as shown with ultrasound. The perceived effect on spinal health with sick leave frequency is also evaluated.

Low Back Pain

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Transdermal Therapeutic System (TTS)-fentanyl patch (transdermal patch containing a drug that is put on the skin so the drug will enter the body through the skin) in severe (very serious, life threatening) chronic (lasting a long time) low back pain in Thai participants.

Effect of an Outpatient Intervention Program in Patients With Chronic Back or Neck Pain

Chronic Low Back PainNeck Pain

To investigated whether an ambulant intervention program with a behavioral therapy approach would exert a long-term effect on chronic unspecific back or neck pain. Specifically, the effect on patients with pronounced fear avoidance behavior and/or with psychosocial limitations was addressed.
