Interactive Telehealth for Wheelchair Users
Spinal Cord InjuriesParaplegia2 moreDuring typical daily activity, people with established spinal cord injury perform significantly fewer pressure-relief maneuvers than the recommended frequency while overestimating their adherence on recall surveys of pressure relief activity. The rate of pressure ulcer recurrence in individuals with a prior ulcer is 44% in those with surgical repair and as high as 75% in those with non-surgical healing indicating that increased attention to pressure relief is critical for these individuals. This study will evaluate the efficacy of a wheelchair sensor and app-based biofeedback for establishing healthy self-management behaviors (pressure relief maneuvers and daily physical activity). Investigators will enroll 50 participants with paraplegia from spinal cord injury who use a manual wheelchair for mobility and have a history of pressure ulcer that has healed or is six months post-surgical repair. Participants will be randomized into one of two groups: an intervention group that will receive an education intervention and the proposed technology to be used for one year, and a control group that will receive only the education intervention. The primary outcome will be pressure ulcer occurrence over one year. Investigators hypothesize that participants receiving the intervention of biofeedback on their pressure relief activity will have a lower recurrence of pressure ulcer than the education only control group. Secondary outcomes include depressive symptoms, self-efficacy, participation and satisfaction with life. Investigators hypothesize that increasing physical activity will reduce depressive symptoms and improve participation and satisfaction with life.
PuraPly™ Antimicrobial Wound Matrix and Wound Management
Pressure UlcerVenous Ulcer3 moreThe PuraPly Antimicrobial Wound Matrix (PuraPly AM) case series is a prospective, observational study for patients who have received PuraPly AM which consists of a collagen sheet coated with polyhexamethylenbiguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) and is intended for the management of wounds; no experimental intervention is involved.
Prevention of Pressure Ulcers in Patients at Medium to High Risk of Developing Pressure Ulcers and...
Pressure InjuryThe aim of the study is to determine the clinical value of using a powered alternating pressure air mattress (P-APAM) in the prevention of pressure injury (PI) in patients at medium to high risk. This study is noncomparative, observational study. Patients older than 18 years of age, with a medium to high risk of PI, without PI, up during the day, and lying more than 15 hours a day on a specific P-APAM were included. The study was conducted in nursing homes, and in long-stay geriatrics department. Patients are followed up for 35 days. The use of the P-APAM is associated with the usual PI prevention measures. The primary outcome is the percentage of patients who developed between day 0 and day 35 at least one PI of at least stage 2 on the sacrum, spine, or heel. Secondary endpoints are patient assessments of comfort, caregiver satisfaction, mattress noise level, and mattress safety.
Evaluation of Wound Dressings in the Reduction of Shear- Force
Pressure UlcerThe purpose of this study is to investigate if wound dressings are capable in reducing the effects of shear- force at the skin. With our own shear- force model we are able to apply 19 Newton shear- force combined with 9 newton pressure at the skin of the non- dominant forearm. After half an hour we measure IL-1alpha/ total protein- ratio, cutaneous blood flow (Laser doppler, Moor LDI) and the erythema index (DSMIIColormeter) which occurs as an effect of shear- force application at the skin. Then, we apply 19 Newton shear- force combined with 9 Newton pressure at the dominant fore-arm but this time we put a wound dressing between the skin and shear- force model. After half an hour we measure the IL-1alpha/total protein-ratio, cutaneous blood flow and the erythema index. This research consists of three research day, each day we are going to investigate a different wound dressing
Trial Comparing SOC +Skin IQ MCM vs SOC for Pressure Ulcer (PU)
Pressure UlcerThe study is a multi-center, prospective, randomized, controlled, clinical study evaluating the effects of microclimate management using Skin IQ™ MCM coverlet placed over commercially available pressure redistribution surfaces compared to standard of care (SOC). The objective of this study is to evaluate if a commercially available pressure redistribution surface when combined with the Skin IQ™ MCM coverlet will significantly reduce pressure ulcer (PU) incidence as compared to use of a commercially available pressure redistribution surface by itself by decreasing the effects of excessive moisture and temperature at the skin and surface interface.
Envision® Surface Evaluation
Pressure UlcerThis observational study will acquire initial clinical practice utilization and product safety data for the Envision® surface.

Study of TurnCare's Q-2 System on the Sacral Pressure Ulcer Prevention in High Risk Patients
Pressure UlcerButtockThis is a non-blind randomized clinical trial to determine the efficacy of the TurnCare Q2 System for the prevention of sacral region (sacral, coccygeal, and buttocks) pressure ulcers. TurnCare Q2 System has 2 main components: 1. An Inflatable Skin Perfusion Enhancement Surface and 2. An Adaptive Pressure Controller. The Skin Perfusion Enhancement Surface has a patented design that accommodate human anatomy in the sacra region. The Adaptive Pressure Controller is powered by APSAR technology that provides patient specific pressure relieve in the sacral region.
An Evaluation of the Impact of a Wound Dressing on Pressure Ulcer Incidence.
WoundsA pressure ulcer (PU) is localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear. PUs are common, affecting up to 40% of participants receiving health care. Furthermore, PUs impact negatively on an individual's health related quality of life, with pain being the most frequently cited complaint. PUs commonly occur in those who cannot reposition themselves to relieve pressure/shear over bony prominences. The ability to reposition is often diminished in the very old, the malnourished and those with acute illness. Pressure ulcers are common devastating wounds, extending from deep in the bone and muscle layers through to the skin, occurring most often in older persons with limited mobility. They contribute to significant morbidity and mortality as they are smelly, highly painful and very prone to infection. Existing research carried out by the RCSI School of Nursing and Midwifery shows that both high and low movers are at risk of pressure ulcer development.
Ultrasonographic and Comfort Comparison of Sitting Fetal Cross-legged Position With Lateral Decubitus...
AnesthesiaConductionA prosperous neuraxial anesthesia positioning ensures a raised chance of successful needle placement. The primary aim is to compare "Sitting Cross-legged Fetal Position -SCF" with "Lateral Decubitus Fetal Position-LDF" anatomically via sonography. Secondary aim is to compare their comfort.
