Effectiveness of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in Motivational Enhancement Therapy for Nicotine Addiction...
Nicotine DependenceNicotine AddictionThe goal of this clinical trial is to determine the effectiveness of the combination of n-acetylcysteine and motivational enhancement therapy on laboratory improvement in the form of changes in blood nicotine, radiological changes in the form of nerve connectivity on post-therapy frontostriatal fMRI examination and clinical changes in the form of abstinence, withdrawal symptoms and cravings in adult smoker.
Dextromethorphan, Memantine Monotherapy, or Combined Use of Dextromethorphan and Memantine in Amphetamine...
Amphetamine AddictionPharmacotherapyThe investigators will conducted a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study to investigate the treatment outcomes of add-on low dose dextromethorphan (DM), memantine (MM), or dextromethorphan and memantine combination (DM+MM) in amphetamine-type stimulants use disorder patients.
Temporal Interference Neurostimulation and Addiction
Nicotine Use DisorderSubstance Use DisordersThis project aims to develop a line of research using new non-invasive neurostimulation technology to treat adults with opioid use disorders (OUDs). In the short term, the investigators aim to identify novel target brain regions for neurostimulation treatment and characterize their effects behaviorally and neurally. In the longer term, investigators aim to use these preliminary data to justify NIH sponsored clinical trials to apply transcranial direct current stimulation and non-invasive deep brain stimulation to these areas to partially or completely disrupt addiction.
Testing the Efficacy of A Scalable, Telephone-Delivered, Guided Imagery Tobacco Cessation Intervention...
Smoking CessationSmoking5 moreThe objective of this R01 application is to conduct a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of the Be Smoke Free, telephone-based, guided imagery (GI) intervention (IC) for smoking cessation compared to active behavioral control (CC). The study will recruit 1,200 diverse smokers from three states, Arizona, New York, and West Virginia to increase generalizability. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the IC or CC delivered by telephone by University of Arizona study coaches and will be assessed at 3- and 6-months post-enrollment by study staff. The primary outcome is biochemically verified 7-day point prevalence abstinence at 6 months. This innovative and rigorously designed project conducted by an experienced team has the potential to improve public health through the delivery of an innovative integrative GI intervention via telephone.
The Efficacy of a Mobile Application in Reducing Craving and Lapse Risk in Alcohol and Stimulants...
AddictionAddiction3 moreThe aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of long-term and short-term app-based self-guided psychological interventions to reduce craving and lapse risk in users with substance use disorder or problematic substance use (alcohol and stimulants). Participants are randomly assigned to thirteen different groups to compare the effectiveness of particular long-term interventions. A questionnaire battery assessment is administered (1) at baseline in the first week following onboarding in; (2) after 5 weeks; (3) after six months. In addition, longitudinal data on several variables related to craving and lapse risk are collected daily using ecological momentary assessment.
Breathwork-assisted Treatment for Cannabis Use Disorder
AddictionSubstance Abuse4 moreThe purpose of this proof-of-concept study is to evaluate the safety, feasibility and acceptability of a breathwork workshop intervention in individuals with cannabis use disorder.
Clinical Study of Ligustrazine in Treating Alcohol Addiction
Alcohol AbuseArteriosclerosisAlcohol consumption is one of the most important risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases in the population, and it is also the main cause of death from cancer, cardiovascular disease and lung disease, causing serious health, economic and social problems. The current alcohol-abstinence drugs have limited therapeutic effects and still present a high relapse rate. It is an urgent need to develop effective drugs for the treatment of alcohol addiction. The multimodal mechanism of action of ligustrazine in the central nervous system indicates that ligustrazine is expected to be developed as a potential therapeutic drug for alcohol addiction. Our study investigated the therapeutic effect of ligustrazine on subjects with alcohol addiction and the mechanism of multimodal brain imaging by administering ligustrazine, in order to develop new targeted drugs for alcohol treatment and provide more effective diagnosis and treatment methods for clinical treatment.
Mobile Health for Problematic Behaviors and Substance Use
AddictionBehavioral Addiction3 moreThe aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of long-term and short-term app-based self-guided psychological interventions to reduce craving and lapse risk in problematic behaviors (compulsive sex, pornography, overeating, gaming, gambling) and substance use (cannabis, nicotine). Participants are randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control. Participants in the intervention group have access to short-term and long-term interventions, whereas those in the control group only have access to the weekly ecological momentary assessment reports. Participants in the intervention group are able to access the intervention materials 5 days after enrollment and receive weekly ecological momentary assessment reports. Those in the control group will be granted access to all intervention materials after five weeks following study enrollment. A questionnaire battery assessments is administered (1) at baseline in the first week following onboarding in; (2) after 5 weeks; (3) after six months. In addition, longitudinal data on several variables related to craving and lapse risk are collected daily using ecological momentary assessment
Impact of a Phone-based Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy on Food Addiction in Patients With Severe...
ObesityFood AddictionMorbid or severe obesity is a chronic pathology of multifactorial etiology that affects 4.3% of the French population. In these patients, eating disorders are frequent and must be managed as they are considered risk factors with poorer weight prognosis and lower quality of life. Some authors have proposed that the concept of food addiction (i.e., the existence of an addiction to certain foods rich in sugar, fat and/or salt) may make it possible to identify, among obese patients, a subgroup of patients that is more homogeneous in terms of diagnosis and prognosis. Food addiction is common in obese patients and is associated with higher levels of depression, anxiety, impulsivity, emotional eating and poorer quality of life. Nevertheless, we do not know the impact of managing this addiction on the future of these patients (food addiction, weight, comorbidities, quality of life). Telephone-based cognitive behavioral therapy intervention (Tele-CBT) is a treatment of choice for addictions, but there are inequalities in access to this treatment (distance between home and hospital, limited local resources of caregivers, constraints in patient availability) which require the therapeutic framework to be adapted to these constraints. A short Tele-CBT program has demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing bulimic hyperphagia in these patients (Cassin et al. 2016), but its effectiveness on food addiction, Body Mass Index and the evolution of metabolic complications related to obesity is still unknown. The evaluation of this program was limited to 6 weeks (American study), and we do not know if these results can also be extrapolated to France. The main hypothesis of this study is that in patients suffering from severe or morbid obesity and with food addiction, the performance of tele-CBT (intervention group: 12 sessions for 18 weeks) will be accompanied by a significant medium-term decrease in the prevalence of food addiction compared to usual management (control group).
Safety and Tolerability of Cannabidiol Among Persons With Opioid Use Disorder Receiving Methadone...
AddictionThe overarching goal of this study is to evaluate the potential of Cannabidiol (CBD) as an adjunctive treatment for comorbid opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain. This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover human laboratory study investigating the dose-dependent safety and acute effects of CBD on measures of pain and opioid craving in outpatients with OUD receiving medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with methadone or buprenorphine.
