The purpose of this study is to determine whether acamprosate (Campral) is safe and effective in treating alcohol dependence in individuals with bipolar disorder. All subjects in the study must be currently stabilized on mood-stabilizing medication. Half of the subjects will receive acamprosate in addition to their mood-stabilizing medication; control subjects will be maintained on their mood-stabilizing medication alone. Measures of alcohol use as well as mood stability will be obtained weekly throughout the active phase of the study.

The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of adding topiramate as compared to placebo to the medications a patient with bipolar disorder is already taking (lithium or valproate) to see if adding topiramate will better control the patient's manic symptoms.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of quetiapine compared to placebo (sugar pill without medication) in the treatment of bipolar disorder with moderate to severe hypomania or mild mania. Quetiapine is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar mania.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of quetiapine compared to valproate during a 12 month treatment period in subjects with Bipolar Disorder I or II with Rapid Cycling.

This is a single center, open prospective study to evaluate the effectiveness of quetiapine monotherapy in the maintenance treatment of adolescent patients with a bipolar spectrum disorder (bipolar I and bipolar II disorders, cyclothymia, and bipolar disorder not otherwise specified [bipolar NOS]) for a minimum of 48 weeks. Patients will be screened (enrolment phase) either when already stabilized or during an acute episode of mania/hypomania or depression.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of risperidone (an antipsychotic medication) versus placebo as add-on therapy to mood stabilizers in the treatment of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.

The primary objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of olanzapine and fluoxetine combined on all the visits as compared with the baseline visit in patients with bipolar disorder, measured by the total score of the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS).
