Increased Monitoring of Physical Activity and Calories With Technology

Weight ChangeBody5 more

Since severe obesity in youth has been steadily increasing. Specialized pediatric obesity clinics provide programs to aid in reducing obesity. Since the home environment and parental behavioral modeling are two of the strongest predictors of child weight loss during behavioral weight loss interventions, a family-based treatment approach is best. This strategy has been moderately successful in our existing, evidence-based pediatric weight management program, Brenner Families In Training (Brenner FIT). However, since programs such as Brenner Families in Training rely on face-to-face interactions and delivery, they are sometimes by the time constraints experienced by families. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop and pilot a tailored, mobile health component to potentially increase the benefits seen by Brenner FIT standard program components and similar pediatric weight management programs.

A Remote Delivered Lifestyle Therapeutics Program

Body Weight ChangesWeight Loss2 more

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The overall risk for heart disease is a composite measure of various modifiable factors including blood pressure, cholesterol, and tobacco use; which are exacerbated by a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, and being overweight. Approximately 32% of the adult U.S. population has high blood pressure and 46% of them have uncontrolled hypertension. Successful management of high blood pressure and other cardiovascular risk is a complex process that requires significant lifestyle changes but adopting and adhering to these changes is challenging. A promise approach to overcoming these challenges is utilizing health coaching. The purpose of this research study is to compare at home devices for blood pressure and weight measurements (DEV) group compared to not using any at home devices Group (NODEV). Both groups will be supported throughout this study by meeting with obesity medicine doctor monthly in office and have a virtual health coaching visits throughout the study duration.

Lactational AmenorrheaBody Weight Changes1 more

Obesity in America has risen to epidemic levels over the past 20 years. For women, childbearing itself could be a contributing factor to this high prevalence of excess weight. In addition, for women who breastfeed, lactation is a time of rapid bone loss due to hyperprolactinemia, amenorrhea, and increased bone turnover, especially in the lumbar spine and hip. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, continue to at least 12 months with the introduction of complementary foods and up to 2 years. Breastfeeding helps reduce long term maternal weight retention from pregnancy, the risk of childhood obesity and provides a number of immunological factors to promote the immune system and gastrointestinal system of the neonate. Bone loss due to lactation is usually reversed with weaning; however, not all women recover from this bone loss which increases the risk of osteoporosis later in life. Weight bearing exercise and dairy intake (milk, yogurt, cheese) plus vitamin D supplementation may provide some protection from bone loss. Thus, the objective of this study is to promote long-term lifestyle changes that support healthy lifelong weight management through a community based exercise intervention and daily yogurt consumption program aimed at overweight- to- obese lactating postpartum women.
