Weight GainOlanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic agent indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and moderate to severe manic episode. Olanzapine is among the many antipsychotic agents associated with weight gain . The mechanism for antipsychotic drug-related weight gain is not known, although antagonism of serotonin receptors, especially the 5HT2C , and histamine receptors has been hypothesized. The purpose of this study is to observe the efficacy of a psychoeducational programme in managing the increased weight as a side effect of the olanzapine treatment. Interventions to prevent weight gain associated with olanzapine should at least include periodic monitoring and recommendations for changes in diet and physical activity. This is a phase IV, randomised, parallel study of subjects previously treated with olanzapine as antipsychotic monotherapy, which have shown an increase of B.M.I. >7% from the beginning of antipsychotic treatment (assessed during the routine visits). For the first 12 weeks of the trial approximately 60 outpatients, enrolled in one site during a period of one year, will be randomised in a 1:1 ratio into 2 treatment groups: olanzapine + psychoeducational programme or olanzapine alone. In the following 12 weeks of the study all patients undergo the psychoeducational programme. The efficacy of this programme will be assessed monitoring the mean difference from baseline to endpoint in total body weight and BMI.
Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training Following Hip Fracture
Hip FractureAchieving independent ambulation is an important goal of hip fracture rehabilitation, as it is predictive of returning to the community and of future health problems. Current research regarding post-hip fracture rehabilitation is sparse. Body weight supported treadmill training (BWSTT) is a novel approach to retrain walking abilities. BWSTT may be ideal for retraining walking after hip fracture, as it is task-specific and alleviates the demands of maintaining balance while walking skills are trained. The use of the harness may provide a sense of security for the patient, facilitating walking training. The proposed project will investigate the feasibility and tolerability of BWSTT after hip fracture, and its impact on function, mobility, quality of life and fear of falling. It is hypothesized that BWSTT 3-5 times weekly in acute hip fracture patients will improve function, mobility, quality of life and reduce fear of falling.

A Study of a Values-Based Intervention to Promote Weight Loss
ObesityWeight LossMore than 160 million American adults are overweight or obese. Existing weight loss interventions from self-help to gold standard behavioral treatments, while often effective, do not sufficiently maintain motivation to adhere to dietary goals in the face of powerful biological and environmental influences to consume highly palatable foods. Clarification and awareness of values, a staple of acceptance-based treatments drawn from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, are thought to enhance autonomous motivation to engage in behaviors consistent with one's personal life values (e.g., health) in the presence of countervailing forces (e.g., hunger, deprivation). However, the independent efficacy of values clarification and awareness in facilitating weight control has never been tested. This pilot study seeks to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of a series of three weight loss workshops (based off the gold standard) infused with values clarification and awareness techniques to promote weight control. Participants will be asked to follow a reduced-calorie dietary prescription while holding their values in mind in moments of dietary decision-making over the course of one month. The primary aims of this study are to: 1) develop the series of values-infused workshops, using participant feedback to iterate and improve the treatment manual; and 2) evaluate treatment acceptability. Secondary aims are: 1) to evaluate whether clinically meaningful changes in measures of values clarification and values awareness occur; 2) to evaluate whether the intervention will lead participants to experience clinically meaningful changes in values-congruent weight control behaviors; 3) to evaluate whether the intervention will lead participants to experience clinically meaningful changes in weight; and 4) to evaluate theorized mechanisms of action in the intervention.
ELIRA 2: Safety and Effectiveness of TENS Assisted Weight Loss and Appetite Suppression
Weight LossThe objectives of this study are to demonstrate safety and effectiveness of a wearable patch TENS system (Appendix 2) in driving weight loss and appetite suppression when coupled with an integrated weight loss reduction strategy. Mindfulness is a method based on the concentration of attention, awareness and meditation, which has been successfully used to reduce stress, depression and anxiety in individuals with some pathology in the short term (eight weeks). Objective: To determine if an intervention with mindfulness is effective to reduce the stress, appetite, and body weight of a group of school children with obesity and stress comparing them with a group that receives conventional therapy. Methods For a controlled clinical trial, 60 children of 10-14 years of age with obesity (BMI> 2 SD) and stress (Spence scale> 60) will be selected, and randomly assigned to a group that receives the intervention with mindfulness (M8S), or to the control group (TC);The intervention with Mindfulness will be done once a week for 8 weeks. Measurements of BMI, glucose, leptin, ghrelin, cortisol and insulin will be carried out at the beginning of the study, and repeated at the end of the intervention and eight weeks after finishing the intervention to evaluate relapses.

Effect of Different Weight Vests on Body Weight in Obese Individuals
ObesityObesity related ailments, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and metabolic disorders are major causes of death in the Western World. The proposed research may result in improved prevention, diagnosis and treatments of obesity and obesity-related disorders. Recently published data show that if a weight is carried by a rodent, this animal will lose body weight and gain an improved glucose control. We aim to confirm these findings in a human model. We plan to let obese subjects carry weight vests and monitor their change in body weight. We will also measure appetite, physical activity and insulin sensitivity to further examine the potential beneficial effects of loading. Blood sampling will be performed to investigate the mechanism of action.

The subjects in the WBV group performed one series of five consecutive repetitions of 60 sec unsynchronised WBV (Zeptoring, Scisen GmbH, Germany; 4 Hz, amplitude 3mm) with a 1-min pause between administrations, three times a week. The controls did not receive any training. Both groups were evaluated at baseline and after intervention, in the Rey Juan Carlos University´s Gait Analysis Laboratory. Four outcome measures of Purdue Pegboard test (PPT): preferred hand (PH), non-preferred hand (NPH), both hands (BH) and assembly (A) was performed baseline and 5 min after intervention.
