Digital Health Weight Management Among Public Housing Residents

This research will test the efficacy of a weight management intervention through a three-group randomized trial: mHealth only, mHealth+Community Health Worker (CHW) support, versus control group, among residents of Boston's public housing developments. The mHealth group consists of a 1-year text messaging program to promote diet and physical activity behavior changes and the CHW support consists of monthly phone counseling delivered by a CHW to support the text messaging program. Our hypothesis is that the mHealth+CHW group will be more effective in bringing about weight loss compared to mHealth alone or the assessment only control group. The findings are expected to inform future health promotion efforts among residents in public housing developments.

Allergy prevalence is increasing steadily with some describing as the "epidemic of the twenty-first century". Maternal diet during pregnancy has been linked to offspring allergy risk, so it represents a potential target for allergy prevention. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered one of the healthiest dietary models which exerts regulatory effects on immune system, due to the synergistic and interactive combinations of nutrients. We aim to study the effects of MD in pregnancy on the onset of allergic diseases at 2 years of age in the offspring.

The study will include overweight and obese otherwise healthy women, recruited from two main borough in Oslo with the highest population of Somali origin. The study comprises two phases: A 12-months controlled trial where the participants in the intervention borough will be compared to participants in the control borough. This is followed by a 12-months maintaining phase for the intervention borough where the control group will be given the same intervention as the intervention group received during the first 12-months.

However, practices remain very heterogeneous, and only a fraction of patients are still follow-up beyond two years after the operation. This study will assess a new care pathway in which the patients are follow-up according to the weight evolution measured by the patient using a connected scale.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the fastest growing public health problems in developed and developing countries and imposes a large financial burden on health-care systems. Preventing, delaying, and managing diabetes should be a priority for health-care systems. Nationally, 38% of adults have prediabetes, with more than 80% of people with prediabetes being unaware of their condition. In Maryland, an estimated 10.5% of adults report prediabetes, and 33.7% of Baltimore City residents have obesity, an important risk factor for prediabetes. The BMDRP aims to increase the capacity of BMDRP hospitals and community partners to offer DPP and DSMT directly in communities and will also increase the number of referrals into these programs. Successful enrollment and completion of DPP has demonstrated reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes for individuals with pre-diabetes. However, limited data exist on changes in body composition and liver fat in individuals completing DPP. Individuals with pre-diabetes often have obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. We will evaluate for changes in body fat and liver fat in individuals completing the DPP program.

Obesity is the main risk factor for the development of chronic-degenerative diseases in Mexico. Due to the difficulty of treating obesity, prevention is urgently needed. The holidays are the festive period with the greatest impact on adult body weight. Evidence from observational studies has shown that more than 50% of the annual weight is gained during this period. However, few preventive interventions have been carried out worldwide. The present work will evaluate the efficacy of the Watch your Weight During Holidays Program on the prevention of weight gain during 8 weeks in comparison with the control group in Mexican adults. The study will be a randomized clinical trial. It will have two intervention groups: 1) Watch your Weight During Holidays Program and 2) Control Group (minimal intervention). Weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, kilograms of body fat, fat mass index, cm2 of abdominal fat, blood pressure and perception of health-related quality of life will be measured in 64 volunteers, at the beginning and after 8 weeks of participating in Watch your Weight During Holidays Program. For comparisons between groups, Student's t-tests or Mann-Whitney's U-tests will be performed, according to the type of sample distribution. The primary variable of the study will be the change in body weight. The secondary variables will be the change in body mass index, waist circumference, kilograms of fat mass, fat mass index, cm2 of abdominal fat, blood pressure and aspects of perception of quality of life related to health.

PRE-Pregnancy Weight Loss And the Reducing Effect on CHILDhood Overweight - Copenhagen

The study is a single site parallel randomized controlled study. The study will be assessing the effect of a 10% weight loss intervention vs a control group among healthy couples where the prospective mother is overweight or obese (BMI 27-45 kg/m^2) and between 18-38 years. The investigators will recruit a total of 240 healthy couples who will be randomized 1:1 to either intervention or control, stratified according to maternal pre-pregnancy BMI. The overall objective is to test whether a comprehensive pre-conceptional parental weight loss intervention effectively reduces the risk of offspring overweight and adiposity and its complications compared to a control group. The investigators hypothesize that parental weight loss intervention, initiated before conception, will facilitate lower parental insulin resistance, inflammation, body weight and adiposity, incretin responses compared to usual care. For the offspring the investigators hypothesize that the intervention will reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes with a reduction in offspring neonatal adiposity, reduced risk of being born large for gestational age (LGA) and with lower BMI z-score at 18 months.

Objectives: To look for the effect of upper limb loading with external weights during partial body weight support treadmill training on gait speed, gait endurance and trunk control. Hypothesis: Investigator's hypothesis is that loading the upper limb with 1 lb. external weights during partial body weight support treadmill training is more effective than partial body weight support treadmill training without loading of the upper limbs in improving gait speed, gait endurance and trunk control.

Unintended Weight Loss

Unintentional weight loss (UWL) is commonly associated with a wide variety of diseases and there is still no valid diagnostic pathway for evaluating UWL. When detecting UWL coupled with GRAIL Galleri testing, (an investigational pan-cancer early detection test), it is thought that there is a greater positive predictive value in detecting malignancies. This study aims to test the potential synergistic effects of UWL detection and GRAIL usage to detect malignancy at an even earlier rate. UWL will be measured using weekly weight tracking.

Phone Coaching for Weight Loss Maintenance

ObesityWeight Loss

The purpose of this study is to examine whether weight loss maintenance can be improved by providing individuals with 4 consecutive weeks of phone coaching during the maintenance period. Individuals who previously achieved and maintained a >=5% weight loss in a 1-year behavioral weight loss program will be provided with a low-intensity maintenance intervention. Some individuals will be selected to receive phone coaching. Assessments of weight, physical activity, and other weight-related behaviors will occur at baseline, 6 months, and 1 year.
