Effect of Entacapone on Bodyweight Loss in Obese Population

This is a randomized, controlled, double blind clinical trial. The purpose of this study is to investigate the weight loss efficacy of entacapone. In this study, participants are randomly divided into entacapone and placebo groups. The percentage change in body weight, the body mass index, waist circumstance, extent of fatty liver, quantity of visceral fat, serum insulin, serum triglyceride and the adverse effects are compared between the two groups.

The objective of this study is to determine the effect different sources and forms of discretionary foods have on dietary compensation and energy intake in healthy adults in a free living, real world setting. Specifically, this pilot study will compare the effect of the greatest caloric sources of savory and sweetened discretionary foods in the American diet (savory snacks v. sugar-sweetened beverages). The rationale for conducting this study is to test the mechanism whereby sugar-sweetened beverages are hypothesized to relate to weight gain and obesity above and beyond other discretionary foods (lack of energy intake compensation due to liquid form of the beverage), since the evidence for this topic is limited. The subject population will be 20 men and women between the age of 18 and 59 who are overweight by body mass index (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2), generally healthy, consume sugar-sweetened beverages or , and are willing to incorporate a sweetened beverage or a savory snack into their usual diet in the 4 week period.

Vitamins A, D, and E play important roles in humans, such as vision function, immune function, bone metabolism, cell growth and differentiation and oxidation resistance. Deficiencies in these vitamins will result in a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease, infection, bone diseases, etc. Preterm infants, especially very low birth weight infants, are at risk of vitamin deficiency. Intravenous perfusion is the most common and widely used method to supply vitamins for the specific population in early life. However, the current dose of vitamin supplied by intravenous perfusion whether can meet the need of growth and development is not sure and the appropriate dose for preterm infants is still uncertain. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether current dose of fat-soluble vitamin supplementation is enough for very low birth weight infants, the safety of high dose of fat-soluble vitamin supplementation, and compare the differences of prevalence of common complications, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, patent ductus arteriosus, sepsis, anemia, and neural development between these two groups.

Evaluation of a Novel Gait Training Device to Support Body Weight

A novel body weight support device that uses pressurized pants may provide advantages in delivering gait therapy. The objectives of this study are to test the following hypotheses that 1) the novel device will allow for increased body weight support while improving or maintaining the same level of patient comfort; 2) the novel device will yield greater patient satisfaction with gait therapy relative to current harness systems; 3) therapists will be more satisfied with the use of the novel device relative to current harness systems; 4) the use of the novel device will require less total therapist time than a harness comparator; 5) the use of the novel device will increase therapeutic treatment time when compared with current harness systems.
