Fibrosis a New Pathological Actor in Adipose Tissue

ObesityMetabolic Diseases2 more

Adipose tissue (AT) has specific alterations in obesity in particular increased fibrosis amount compared to lean subjects. Fibrosis amount measured by immunohistochemistry on adipose biopsies appears to to predict weight loss response after a bariatric surgery. Non invasive tools to measure fibrosis needs to be validated. The investigators primary aim is to validate a new device able to measure adipose tissue stiffness. Thus the investigators plan to compare the stiffness results obtained with the device to the quantification of fibrosis using immuno-chemistry in massively obese patient's candidates to a bariatric surgery.

Appropriate Laryngeal Mask Airway Size in Patients With Overweight: A Comparison of the Actual Body...

General Anesthesia

The classic laryngeal mask airway is one of the keystones of modern anaesthetic practice. It achieves a reliable airway with a low incidence of major complications and pharynges-laryngeal morbidity. The manufactures of laryngeal mask airway recommend the proper size selection by actual body weight. It was recommended a size 3 for 30-70kg, a size 4 for 70-90 kg, and size 5 for > 90 kg. Obesity increases the fat tissue around an upper airway and decreases the pharyngeal cross sectional area. Also it was reported that pharyngeal area was reduced according to the increasing of BMI. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine which of actual body weight or ideal body weight is proper on the size selection of laryngeal mask airway.

Maternal and Infant Growth Study

Maternal BehaviorBody Weight1 more

Rapid growth early in infancy is a risk factor for obesity and cardiovascular disease later in the lifespan. Evidence is limited, but both pre- and postnatal factors are associated with early rapid growth, and include high maternal BMI prior to pregnancy and excessive gestational weight gain. This research focuses on aspects of early feeding as potentially modifiable factor affecting early infant weight gain. Formula feeding mothers are randomized to receive either 5 oz of 8 oz bottles to use in feeding their infants from 2- to 16 weeks postpartum. In addition, a reference group of exclusively breastfeeding mother-infant dyads are also included. The hypothesis is that differences in feeding practices will be associated with differences in growth and that infants randomized to be fed from smaller bottles will grow more slowly that those randomized to larger bottles. Growth patterns of formula fed infants will also be compared to those of exclusively breastfed infants.

Body Weight Gain, Parkinson, Subthalamic Stimulation

Parkinson's Disease

Chronic bilateral subthalamic stimulation leads a spectacular clinical improvement in patients with motor complications. However, the post-operative body weight gain involved may limit the benefits of surgery and induce critical metabolic disorder. The aim of this study to determine the energy expenditure in usual conditions of life.
