Ex-vivo Modulatory Effect of Biological Drugs for Inflammatory Bowel Disease on the Mucosa and on...

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

To characterize circulating DC subsets from healthy controls and IBD patients and to assess, following an ex vivo challenge, the effect of anti-TNF (infliximab, adalimumab and golimumab), anti-p40 -IL-12/IL-23- (ustekinumab) and anti-α4β7 (vedolizumab) immunomodulators on both the GI production of soluble immune mediators and the mucosal capacity to alter the recruitment capacity of circulating DC subsets. It is expected that such approach will provide further information on the action mechanisms of such therapies on IBD patients, allowing a better understanding of the pathophysiology of this disease and the identification of tissue-specific therapeutic targets, thus avoiding collateral problems associated with systemic immunomodulation.

Trial on Impact of HealthPROMISE Mobile App on Inflammatory Bowel Disease Care and Quality of Life...

Inflammatory Bowel DiseaseCrohn's Disease1 more

HealthPROMISE is a mobile application (app) for patients that allows regular tracking of symptoms by patients and communicates them to physicians. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to determine the impact of the HealthPROMISE application on improving patient outcomes. The trial will look at how much patients use the application, whether physicians change treatment in response to new information from patients, and how the patients quality of life change over the span of the study. The investigators hypothesize that HealthPROMISE will enhance physician-patient communication and improve clinical outcomes.

MRI in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The aim of this study is to find an optimal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method to examine patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients should furthermore avoid being exposed to unnecessary X-rays and invasive examination. It is the investigators expectation that this study will benefit to future patients, as they will be offered MRI as the first choice. Hereby, the patients avoid the risks and discomfort associated with x-ray examinations. The aim is that patients with IBD achieve better and earlier treatment and if this is achieved it both benefits patient and public health. An earlier treatment leads to fewer hospitalizations and thereby saving the community money. The investigators hope is that the investigators study will show that MRI is one of the best tool to examine patients with IBD and that this in future leads MRI to be the first choice in contrary to all examinations with x-ray exposer, unless there is any contraindication to MRI.

Specific microRNAs as Potential Biomarker for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Crohn's DiseaseUlcerative Colitis

The aim of this study is to assess the ability of miR-320a and other specific microRNAs to follow the disease course in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), and to distinguish both entities, infectious colitis and healthy controls. Furthermore, the accuracy of miRNA-320a to distinguish CD or UC from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) should be evaluated . The study is designed as a single center non-randomised prospective trial.

The IBD&me Randomized Controlled Trial

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Navigating the risk-benefit profiles of the various biologic options approved for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be challenging for patients who are considering biologic therapies as a treatment option. Thus, there is a need for simple and efficient tools that elicit individual preferences and support the patient-provider interaction. The principal objective of this study is to assess the impact of an online decision aid called IBD&me on patient perceptions of shared-decision making as compared to a standardized education arm.

The Feasibility of Following the Crohn's Diet

Crohn DiseaseInflammatory Bowel Diseases1 more

A research team from King's College London are investigating how diet can be used as a treatment for Crohn's disease. The investigators have designed a new diet and eventually wish to test whether the diet can be used to manage Crohn's disease and reduce gut inflammation. Before doing this, the investigators need to find out how practical it is for people to follow the diet for 14 days by conducting this 'feasibility' study. A feasibility study is a small study that aims to highlight any issues before informing the design of a larger research trial. The diet the investigators have designed is called the Crohn's Diet. The evidence for this diet is based on recent research which suggests that certain food ingredients may be involved in triggering gut inflammation. The study's primary aim is to assess the practicalities of following the Crohn's Diet. It will also assess compliance to the Crohn's Diet and if following it changes the nutritional balance from the normal diet.
