Neonatal Brain Ultrasound With CEUS and Elastography

Neonatal Hypoxic Ischemic EncephalopathyNeonatal Stroke2 more

The aim of our study is to investigate changes of brain perfusion and elasticity in neonates during the time that a neonate is adapting to live outside the womb and during diseases that are suspected to affect neonatal brain perfusion. We use contrast enhanced ultrasound (sulphur hexafluoride) and ultrasound-assisted elastography to evaluate the state of brain perfusion. We will study neonates recruited from the Neonatal Units of Turku University Hospital.

Healthy Little Eyes

Hypoxic-Ischemic EncephalopathyNeonatal Encephalopathy1 more

The purpose of this research study is to gather more information on how eye injury is related to a baby's future development and see if eye function and brain test results can be used, along with current measures, to better diagnose and treat babies with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Participants will undergo up to two eye exam sessions, involving both Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) and Electroretinogram (ERG) exams.

Clinical Indicators and Brain Image Data: a Study Based on Kailuan Cohort

Brain DiseasesHypertension

The investigators will analyze the relationship between the medical history, physiological indicators and the cerebral small vessel disease as well as the structural and functional changes of the brain/head and neck organs in a large sample size of subjects (participants), to identify the influencing factors of the occurrence and development of cerebral small vessel disease as well as the structural and functional changes of the brain/head and neck organs, so as to provide objective clues for early intervention of the disease and improve clinical outcomes.

Establishment of a Cohort of Patients With Sepsis-associated Encephalopathy (SAE)

Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy

In this study, the researcher involved the sepsis patients(defined by sepsis 3.0) in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The SAE was defined as the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of less than 15 and the Non-SAE group GCS = 15. The control group was the non-infectious patients with acute disease strikes and the healthy control. After the sample collection, the RNA-sequence, metabolites and cytokines were under detection.

Flicker App for Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy

Hepatic Encephalopathy

There is a great unmet clinical need for improved screening for MHE in patients with cirrhosis. We will demonstrate that the Flicker-App can be used in clinic as well as at home by patients with cirrhosis to measure CFF, a proven screening test for MHE. We will optimize the protocol, software, and hardware of the Flicker-App to create a product appropriate for production and distribution to patients

Prognostic Factors to Regain Consciousness

Neurologic DisorderDisorder of Consciousness3 more

The study aims to identify factors that predict the medium and long-term outcome of patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) undergoing early neurological rehabilitation. In this prospective, observational study, 130 DOC patients are going to be included (36 months). At study entry, different routine data, disease severity and functional status are documented for each patient. In addition, MRI, EEG and evoked potentials are measured within the first week. The level of consciousness is recorded with the Coma-Recovery-Scale-Revised and serves as the primary outcome parameter. Complications, comorbidities, functional status and leve of consciousness are assessed weekly. After eight weeks, the measurement of the MRI, the EEG and the evoked potentials are repeated. After 3, 6 and 12 months, the Glasgow Outcome Scale-Revised is used to followed up the current status of the patients.

Study of Selected X-Linked Disorders: Aicardi Syndrome

Aicardi SyndromeBrain Disorders

Based on our current understanding of Aicardi syndrome, the condition is hypothesized to occur due to a genetic change on the X-chromosome. The research team is investigating Aicardi syndrome to identify the specific gene location associated with the disorder. Th investigators are collecting blood and skin biopsy samples from patients and their parents. A permanent cell line is prepared and DNA from the blood and skin samples and cell lines is isolated and then used for genetic testing. The current research includes microarray analysis which which is used to look for duplications or deletions of genetic material, mutation analysis of candidate genes by sequencing, review of medical records to identify trends suggesting possible candidate genes of interest, and X chromosome inactivation studies.

VICIS - Vienna Cirrhosis Study

Liver CirrhosisPortal Hypertension3 more

Patients with advanced chronic liver diseases treated at the Vienna General Hospital of the Medical University of Vienna will be offered to participate in this prospective observational trial. Clinical parameters and laboratory parameters will be recorded for all patients and patients will undergo a regular follow-up schedule with clinical visits at the Vienna General Hospital. This study is linked to a biobank with serum/plasma, ascitic fluid, urine, GI tract mucosal biopsies, liver biopsies and stool collected from the study participants.

Neonatal Seizure Registry - Developmental Functional EValuation

Neonatal SeizureHypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy5 more

The NSR-DEV study is a longitudinal cohort study of around 280 Neonatal Seizure Registry participants that aims to evaluate childhood outcomes after acute symptomatic neonatal seizures, as well as examine risk factors for developmental disabilities and whether these are modified by parent well-being.

Neonatal Neurologic Intensive Care Network of China

Neonatal EncephalopathySuspected Neonatal Encephalopathy

The purpose of this study is to create a neonatal neurologic biological big data center named Neonatal Neurologic Intensive Care Network in China with neonatal systematic information, biological samples and genomics & genetic data on neonates born with neonatal severe encephalopathy. It also can predict brain injury as cerebral function monitoring through big data and recommend appropriate treatment. In addition, the following samples will be collected in a bio-bank in for future studies: blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples.
