Internet-delivered ACT (I-Navigator ACT) for Parents of Children With Disabilities

The purpose of the project is to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of the internet-delivered Acceptance and Commitment Therapy treatment (I-Navigator ACT) for parents who experience stress, distress, depression or anxiety that may be associated with being a parent of a child with disabilities. The project consists of three studies: Study 1: An open feasibility trial in which parents participate in an individual, clinician-supported internet-delivered Acceptance and Commitment Therapy treatment. Study 2: A randomized controlled trial in which participants are randomly assigned either: Navigator ACT group treatment, where parents participate in an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy group together with other parents, led by two group leaders, or I-Navigator ACT internet-delivered Acceptance and Commitment Therapy treatment, where the parent participates on their own, coached by a clinician via a message function. Study 3: A qualitative study in which a smaller sample of parents from the open feasibility trial participate in semi-structured interviews. The interviews take place after the parents have completed I-Navigator ACT. All three studies are conducted in a clinical health care context.

Early Intervention Based on Neonatal Crawling in Very Premature Infants Without Major Brain Damage...

Prematurity

Extreme prematurity is constantly increasing according to the World Health Organization. However, methods to train premature infants at risk of disability is sorely lacking. The goal of this project is to overcome this problem. In our previous studies, we discovered that promoting the crawling of typical newborns on a mini skateboard, the Crawliskate (a new tool that we designed and patented EP2974624A1), is an excellent way to stimulate infants' motor and locomotor development. This method is a promising way to provide early interventions in infants at heightened risk for developmental delay, such as premature infants. The specific objective of this study is to determine if early training in crawling on this mini skateboard will accelerate motor (particularly locomotor) and/or neuropsychological development in very premature infants identified as median risk for developmental delay. Methodology: We will study and follow three groups of very premature infants born between 24 and 32 weeks of gestational age without major brain lesions. These infants will be recruited before their hospital discharge at the NICU. After their discharge from the hospital, one group of infants will be trained at home by physiotherapists to crawl on the Crawliskate every day for 2 months (Crawli group), one group of infants will be trained at home by physiotherapists positioned prone on a mattress (Mattress group) and one group of infants will receive regular medical care (Control group). All infants will be tested for: 1) their crawling proficiency on the Crawliskate at term-equivalent age (just before training for the trained groups) and at 2 months corrected age (CA, i.e., age determined from the date on which they should have been born), 2) their motor proficiency between 2 and 24 months CA (2D and 3D recording of head control, sitting, crawling, stepping, walking) and 3) their neurodevelopmental, motor and neuropsychological development between 0 and 24 months CA : BSID III edition, ASQ-3, Amiel-Tison's Neurological Assessment, Prechtl Assessment of general movements. One more ASQ-3 questionnaire will be provided at five years. Expected results: Our first research hypothesis is that premature infants trained daily to crawl (for two months after discharge from the NICU) will acquire proficient crawling patterns and develop earlier and more effective motor and neuropsychological development than premature infants who receive mattress training or no training.

Traumatic Brain Injury

The primary aim of this study is to assess the magnitude of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) -induced cognitive and functional change in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. This study will also attempt to identify biomarkers associated with treatment response. Last, acceptability and tolerability of procedures will be assessed. To accomplish these aims, a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, parallel groups, pilot study will be conducted in which participants are assigned to 24 sessions of tDCS or sham stimulation offered concurrent with working memory training. Neural efficiency will be measured with electroencephalogram (EEG) pre and post-intervention.

Our research program aims to identify evidence-based strategies for closing this knowledge-practice gap. Building on a successful pilot trial, the reseachers will evaluate the effectiveness of a clinical practice guideline implementation tool designed to support proactive management of mental health complications after mTBI in primary care.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of "RehaCom," a computerized treatment for memory deficits, in a 16-session, interactive course. Following a manualized approach, the Rehacom modules will be used for the repeated application of the content acquired during 1-on-1 memory strategy training. The goal is to improve face/name, list and verbal memory of patients who survived a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.

The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of a low vs. high dose of acupuncture treatment in individuals with chronic post-traumatic headache (CPTH). A total of 36 people with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) suffering from CPTH will be enrolled in this study to receive acupuncture treatment for 5 weeks. Participants will be randomized into two groups: 1) Low Acupuncture group (5 treatments) and 2) High Acupuncture group (10 treatments). It is hypothesized that both treatment groups will have decreased headaches, but that 10 treatments will greater alleviate headaches when compared to 5 treatments.
