Lactate Levels Correlates With Ki-67 in Brain Tumor Surgery

Brain TumorAnesthesia

In neurosurgery, brain tumor patients show increased levels of lactate at the beginning of surgery. This has been related to malignancy. Ki-67 is a cell proliferation index used as a marker of tumor mitotic activity. This research aims to describe the correlation between lactate levels and the Ki-67 index in patients with brain tumor.

Cancer and Other Disease Risks in U.S. Nuclear Medicine Technologists

Brain CancerThyroid Cancer2 more

Background: The field of nuclear medicine has changed a lot in the past decades. Technology has gotten better, so patients are exposed to less radiation. But now workers are doing procedures more often and using lead aprons less. So they may be exposed to more radiation. This may put them at higher risk for cancers and other health problems that are related to radiation. Researchers want to collect data from technologists to learn more about the risks and appropriate doses of radiation. Objective: To learn more about the risks and appropriate doses of radiation for nuclear medicine technologists. Eligibility: Adults who were first certified in nuclear medicine technology in the United States after 1980. They must be living in the United States. They must not be participants in the USRT study. Design: Participants will be recruited online. Participants will complete an online survey. It will take about a half hour. This will have questions about their work with nuclear medicine procedures. There will be questions about the kinds of procedures and how often they do them. Participants will give a short work history. This will include the names of current and past employers. Participants will allow researchers to get records of their film badge dose readings. These will come from dosimetry providers. Dosimetry data will not be shared with participants. Researchers can t ensure the how accurate or complete the data are.

National Wide Cross-sectional Study in Paediatric Central Nervous System Tumours in China -- the...

TumorsCentral Nervous System3 more

Tumours of central nervous system (CNS) is the most common type of solid tumour in childhood. In China, there is limited epidemiology information. Released data from Chinese CDC did not include types of CNS tumours and geographic contribution. As the Children's Neuro-Oncology Group (CNOG) was established in China in May 2017, it makes studies from multiple centers in children's brain tumors become practical. This retrospective cross-sectional study was aligned on CNOG annual meeting in 2018 and research group was named as CNOG-MC001 (MC, multicenter) collaborative group.

FBY PET/CT in Patients With Brain Tumors

Brain Tumor

This study is an open-labeled phase II diagnostic clinical trial to explore the safety and clinical value of FBY in suspected adult brain tumor patients. The investigation regarding the clinical value of FBY includes 1) the metabolic characteristics of FBY in suspected malignant brain tumors; 2) role of FBY to differentiate tumor progression from pseudoprogression. A single dose of 0.10 mCi/kg FBY will be intravenously injected for PET examination. Quantitative features will be extracted to analysis the PET images. Cranial MRI (with contrast enhancement) will also performed as diagnostic comparison with FBY. For patient who took surgery after multiple examination, histopathology, molecular pathology and LAT-1 immunohistochemistry will also be obtained.

The Relationship of Anesthesia Method With Serum Lactate Level in Craniotomies

Intracranial NeoplasmHyperlactatemia2 more

The investigators aimed to research the incidence of hyperlactatemia in craniotomy cases, the relationship of lactate elevation with tumor type and other factors that may be related, and whether the general anesthesia method applied (inhalation anesthesia or total ıntravenous anesthesia) affects lactate level.

Tryptophan Metabolism in Human Brain Tumors

Brain Tumors

The main purpose of this study is to determine the potential clinical utility of PET imaging using the radiotracer [C-11]alpha-methyl-L-tryptophan in the diagnosis, differentiation and monitoring of various brain tumors, both before and after initial treatment. We will also study mechanisms and clinical significance of abnormal brain tumor tryptophan metabolism using resected tumor tissues.

Intraoperative Functional Ultrasound

Brain TumorBrain Lesion

A wide spectrum of methods is used to image brain activation in vivo. It can be directly detected by neurons electrical activity imaging (cortical simulation mapping, calcium imaging, voltage sensitive dyes) or indirectly by imaging hemodynamic changes induced by the neurovascular coupling in the vessels surrounding the activated neurons (intrinsic optical imaging, photoacoustic imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)). Ultrasound as the potential to complement these functional imaging techniques at low cost. Ultrasound imaging can do real-time in-depth imaging of brain. However, its use to imaging of major vessels has been limited until now due to its poor sensitivity. To overcome this limitation functional ultrasound (fUS) was developed in Institut Langevin since 2011. This technique enables high spatio-temporal resolution imaging of whole-brain microvasculature dynamics in response to brain activation without the need of contrast agent. This fUS method relies on a new power Doppler imaging sequence sensitive enough to detect blood flow in most of cerebral vessels (arterioles, big venules and larger vessels). Repeating the acquisition of such ultrasensitive Doppler images over time enables to follow flow dynamics in such vessels modulated by local neuronal activity. Applied to the rat brain, fUS was proved able to map brain activation at high spatiotemporal resolution and high signal to noise ratio. The aim of this study is now to apply fUS on human brain in intraoperative condition. The main objective of this study is to find activation maps through intraoperative ultrasensitive Doppler compared to gold standard cortical simulation mapping and functional MRI. Secondly the investigators want to test sensitivity of this new Doppler mode. fUS method will be used for different types of stimuli and intensity and the investigators will do some control acquisitions. Blood vessel density observed with a conventional Doppler will be compared to the one measured with the ultrasensitive Doppler to prove that this new Doppler mode enhance micro vessel visualization.
