Quality of Life Study Breakthrough Cancer Pain Treated in Radiation Oncology Services With Palliative...

Breakthrough Pain

In the context of radiotherapy, control of breakthrough pain represents a special challenge. Patients undergoing radiotherapy may experience different situations of pain that may be due to the need to remain immobilized during radiotherapy session, the need to wear an immobilization mask (head and neck cancer), the odynophagia caused by mucositis, defecation after the development of proctitis, or sudden pain during the night causing sleep disturbances. In a survey conducted in radiation oncology services more than half of patients treated with radiotherapy experienced pain, and 39% of patients reported that their pain was not treated properly. This situation may increase the patient's anxiety, dissatisfaction with treatment, affect their quality of life and can even come to refuse radiotherapy treatment. This post-authorization observational study will assess the quality of life of cancer patients with breakthrough cancer pain treated in radiotherapy services in Spanish hospitals.

Intranasal Transmucosal Fentanyl Pectin for Breakthrough Cancer Pain in Radiation-induced Oropharyngeal...

Breakthrough PainMucositis3 more

An open-label, non-randomized study to assess the titration, safety and efficacy of intranasal fentanyl pectin nasal spray for the treatment of secondary breakthrough pain secondary to radiation-induced mucositis in patients with confirmed tolerance of opioid therapy for chronic pain. Study objectives include assessment of breakthrough pain episodes related with food intake in patients with mucositis secondary to radiotherapy or radio-chemotherapy for head and neck tumors

Efficacy and Tolerability of Intranasal Fentanyl Spray for the Treatment of Breakthrough Pain in...

Breakthrough PainCancer

The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intranasal fentanyl spray in cancer patients over four weeks, especially during cancer-related breakthrough pain (BTP) attacks. The fentanyl spray was applied into the nose by a metered-spray device. The study was to provide further data on pharmacoeconomic efficiency of intranasal fentanyl spray.

An Assessment of the Ability of Fentanyl Citrate Nasal Spray to Manage Breakthrough Pain in Cancer...

Pain

Lazanda is a prescription nasal spray medicine that contains the medicine fentanyl. It is used to manage breakthrough pain in adults with cancer who are already routinely taking other opioid pain medicines around-the-clock for cancer pain. Lazanda is started only after taking other opioid pain medicines and the patient's body has become used to them (opioid tolerant). The purpose of this study is to assess the ability of Lazanda to control pain during an episode of breakthrough pain in cancer patients.

Procedural Pain in Palliative Care: Prevalence, Intensity and Treatment

Breakthrough PainPain Due to Certain Specified Procedures3 more

This study aims to assess self reported procedural pain compared with background pain and evaluate pain intensity differences across six standard procedures. Besides, rescue and preventive treatments used to control procedural pain will be examined.

Quality of Life Study Breakthrough Cancer Pain Treated in Medical Oncology Services (CAVIDIOM)

Breakthrough Pain

In cancer patients, pain is one of the most common symptoms. The range of reported prevalence of pain varies from 33% to 64% including different stages of cancer, during or after anticancer treatment. Moreover, despite the optimal management of basal chronic pain, 66% of these patients have reported breakthrough pain which has a severe impact on quality of life. There is insufficient clinical information on the quality of life of cancer patients with breakthrough pain treated in medical oncology services according to routine clinical practice. For this reason we consider it is appropriate to prospectively evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients with cancer breakthrough pain in medical oncology services as well as other factors that can affect quality of life. This post-authorization observational study will assess the quality of life of cancer patients with breakthrough cancer pain treated in medical oncology services in Spanish hospitals.

Quality of Life Study in Patients With Cancer Breakthrough Pain Treated in Palliative Care Units...

Breakthrough Pain

Patients treated in Palliative Care Units are potentially fragile patients, especially in our case, which are cancer patients. The management of these patients is usually done from experience, because these patients rarely meet criteria for clinical trials, as their inclusion could affect results obtained in the trial. There is insufficient clinical information on the quality of life of cancer patients with breakthrough pain treated in palliative care units according to routine clinical practice. For this reason we consider it is appropriate to prospectively evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients with cancer breakthrough pain treated in palliative care units as well as the characteristics of these patients. This post-authorization observational study will assess the quality of life of patients with breakthrough cancer pain treated in Palliative Care Units in Spanish hospitals.

Breakthrough Pain Computer Integrated Patient Controlled Epidural Analgesia

Pain

The computer-integrated patient controlled epidural analgesia (CIPCEA) system can automatically adjust the background infusion rate during combined spinal-epidural (CSE) analgesia based on the parturient's need as labour progresses. Analysis of parturients experiencing breakthrough pain may identify associated factors that can also be related to obstetric or foetal outcomes
