Anatomic Stage 0 Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v820 more

This clinical trial studies the effect of a culturally based brief expressive writing intervention in improving the health of Chinese immigrant stage 0-III breast cancer survivors. Culturally based brief expressive writing interventions may help researchers learn more about the experiences of Chinese immigrant breast cancer survivors and how writing about their experiences may affect their health.

Telephone-Based Intervention in Increasing Adherence to Adjuvant Hormonal Therapy in Patients With...

Stage IA Breast CancerStage IB Breast Cancer6 more

This pilot trial studies a telephone-based intervention to see if it increases adherence to adjuvant hormonal therapy in patients with breast cancer. Increasing communication between doctors and patients with breast cancer may help patients to better follow recommendations on taking adjuvant hormonal treatment medication. A telephone-based intervention may help to increase doctor-patient communication and patients' adherence to their prescribed medication.

Virtual Rehabilitation for Cancer Survivors

Breast CancerStage 011 more

Pragmatic hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation (E-I) trial of a virtual cancer rehabilitation program: The study team will conduct a multi-center hybrid type I effectiveness-implementation study to examine the clinical effectiveness and implementation potential of an 8-week multidimensional virtual cancer rehabilitation intervention (CaRE@Home) for cancer survivors with identified cancer-related impairments on level of overall disability (primary outcome) and patient reported physical and social functioning, anxiety, work status, quality of life, and physiologic changes (secondary outcomes). The study team will conduct a multi-centre pragmatic randomized controlled trial (RCT) (Vancouver, Toronto, Saint John and St. John's) to evaluate effectiveness and using the CIFR, the study team will identify potential factors that may affect successful implementation and integration of CaRE@Home in different cancer settings.

Improving Patient-Centered Communication in Breast Cancer Through Patient and Provider Interventions...

Anatomic Stage 0 Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v820 more

This trial studies the effectiveness of two interventions on patient reported outcomes of patient centered communication and decision making about breast cancer treatment. The first intervention consists of enhancements to an existing patient-facing breast cancer treatment decision tool called iCanDecide that supports the management of worry, distress, and anxiety as compared to an existing tool. The second intervention consists of a clinician dashboard that populates information after patients view either website regarding any ongoing issues or concerns.

Safely Stopping Pre-medications in Patients With Breast Cancer Who Are Receiving Paclitaxel

Anatomic Stage 0 Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v823 more

This phase II/III trial investigates the difference in rates of infusion hypersensitivity reaction in patients with breast cancer who are receiving paclitaxel alone or in combination with other cancer drugs which require parenteral rescue medication after stopping standard pre-medications (dexamethasone, diphenhydramine, famotidine/cimetidine/ranitidine), compared to continuing premedications. Paclitaxel is a drug used to treat breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and autoimmune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related Kaposi sarcoma. It blocks cell growth by stopping cell division and may kill cancer cells. It is a type of antimitotic agent. However, there are side-effects and toxicities associated with repeat exposure to this pre-medication regimen. With prolonged use of paclitaxel, especially during weekly regimens, patients are exposed to repeat doses of drugs that prevent hypersensitivity reactions. Side effects include, but are not limited to, insomnia, gastritis, fluid retention, weight gain, mood changes and immune suppression. The information gained from this study may positively influence clinical practice and help researchers develop methods to safely stop pre-medications.

Standard Verbal Counseling With or Without a Pictorial Educational Tool for the Reduction of Psychological...

Anatomic Stage 0 Breast Cancer AJCC v8Anatomic Stage I Breast Cancer AJCC v815 more

This clinical trial studies the effect of standard verbal counseling with or without a pictorial educational tool for the reduction of psychological morbidity in patients with stage 0-IIIA breast cancer receiving radiation therapy. Beginning radiation therapy for breast cancer can be stressful. Education about what to expect often reduces the stress, anxiety, and depression experienced by these patients. This study is being done to see how effective photos are in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression associated with radiation therapy for patients with breast cancer.

Hypofractionated Regional Nodal Irradiation Clinical Trial for Women With Breast Cancer

Breast CancerNode-positive Breast Cancer3 more

Single-arm, phase 2 study evaluating hypofractionated irradiation of breast and regional nodes in women with breast cancer. Patients will be grouped in 3 surgery-related treatment groups: 1) An intact breast following lumpectomy; 2) plans for loco regional external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) following mastectomy (with or without plans for reconstruction); and 3) plans for locoregional EBRT following mastectomy with reconstruction. Patients will be assessed for lymphedema, arm function, breast or chestwall pain, other EBRT-related adverse events, and, for patients who had a lumpectomy or mastectomy with reconstruction, cosmetic outcome.

Testing MK-3475 (Pembrolizumab) as Adjuvant Therapy for Triple Receptor-Negative Breast Cancer

Invasive Breast CarcinomaStage 0 Breast Cancer AJCC v6 and v74 more

This randomized phase III trial studies how well pembrolizumab works in treating patients with triple-negative breast cancer. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as pembrolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread.

3D-CRT, Proton, or Brachytherapy APBI in Treating Patients With Invasive and Non-invasive Breast...

Ductal Breast Carcinoma In SituEstrogen Receptor Positive6 more

This phase II trial studies the side effects of three-dimensional conformal external-beam photon radiotherapy (3D-CRT), proton, or brachytherapy accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) in treating patients with breast cancer that has or hasn't spread from where it began in the breast to surrounding normal tissue. Radiation therapy such as photon and proton partial breast external beam radiotherapy, uses high energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving radiation therapy in different ways may kill more tumor cells. Brachytherapy, also known as internal radiation therapy, uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether photon or proton partial breast external beam radiotherapy or partial breast brachytherapy works better in treating patients with breast cancer.

Hypofractionated Partial Breast Irradiation in Treating Patients With Early Stage Breast Cancer...

Ductal Breast Carcinoma In SituEarly-Stage Breast Carcinoma8 more

This phase II trial studies how well hypofractionated partial breast irradiation works in treating patients with early stage breast cancer. Hypofractionated radiation therapy delivers higher doses of radiation therapy over a shorter period of time and may kill more tumor cells and have fewer side effects. Treating only the part of the breast where the cancer started may lead to fewer side effects than standard treatment.
