Comparison Study of Different Tumor Biopsy Method for Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer...

Breast CancerSentinel Lymph Node

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has become a mainstay surgery method in breast cance, and the identified number of sentinel lymph nodes determines its accuracy for axillary status. Retrospective study indicated that preoperative tumor biopsy results in more detected sentinel lymoh nodes. The clinical trail is designed to compare the effect of three tumor biopsy methods (preoperative vacuum-assisted biopsy, core needle biopsy, and intraoperative excisional biopsy) for sentinel lymph nodes.

The Efficacy of Acupuncture as a Complementary Treatment for Pain and Anxiety After Breast Cancer...

Acupuncture TherapyBreast Neoplasms

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Fortunately, survival has improved in recent years thanks to its early detection and curative treatments such as mastectomy. However, this medical procedure is associated with a range of unwanted effects such as postoperative pain and anxiety. Some studies have reported that acupuncture could be an effective treatment to control these types of symptoms, although only few studies have been conducted on women undergoing mastectomy. Methods: This is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial with blind assessors. The study will be conducted in the Breast Unit of Hospital Universitario Sagrado Corazon of Barcelona (Spain). A sample of 40 women will be recruited and randomized to receive acupuncture treatment in addition to standard care procedures, or standard care procedures alone. The main outcome, pain, will be assessed after the surgical intervention and 4, 10 and 30 days later using the numerical rating scale. Secondary outcomes include anxiety, use of analgesics, nausea, adverse effects, and surgical complications. Discussion: Acupuncture is a low-cost non-pharmacological strategy. This study will help to clarify its possible role in controlling post-mastectomy adverse effects.

Breast Cancer Active Surveillance, Alternative Option, Aspirin Included

Breast Cancer

Experimental, clinical, and epidemiological studies have all demonstrated the strong association between chronic inflammation and cancer, and many studies have correlated the prolonged presence of the inflammatory milieu with an increased risk for developing cancer.(1) Although the potential mechanism for aspirin preventing breast cancer is not known, possible pathways may involve platelets, inflammation, cyclooxygenase (COX) 2, hormones, or PI3 kinase. (2). In actual clinical practice there exist clear guidelines for the use of aspirin in colorectal cancer but no such guidelines exist for the use of aspirin in breast cancer patients. In the Unit´s proper experience, in patients under active surveillance and metastatic ones some present very good responses both in the neoadjuvant and in the metastatic setting but investigators intend to provide evidence and not just the experience. This study patients are proposed to combine their standard treatment with aspirin.
