Study of Biomarkers Associated With Fatigue in Patients With Early-Stage Breast Cancer Treated With...
Breast CancerDepression2 moreRATIONALE: Studying samples of blood in the laboratory from patients with breast cancer may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in DNA and identify biomarkers related to fatigue. PURPOSE: This research study is studying biomarkers associated with fatigue in patients with early-stage breast cancer treated with metformin or placebo on NCIC-CTG-MA.32.
Tell us Your Food Story
Breast NeoplasmsIn 2017, it is estimated that 318,590 Americans, men and women, will be diagnosed with breast cancer (American Cancer Society, 13). It was predicted in the 1970s that 1 in 11 Americans would be diagnosed with breast cancer, currently, it is 1 in 8 people. A person is twice as likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer if they have one first-degree female with a diagnosis, 3-4 times if there is more than one first-degree female relative with a diagnosis. Reasons for this increase in breast cancer diagnoses are that people are living longer, changes in reproductive patterns, increases or decreases in menopausal hormone use, increased numbers of detection through screening including genetic testing, and the rising prevalence of obesity (American Cancer Society). The purpose of this study is to better understand how a diagnosis of breast cancer supports change in diet and their food story. Qualitative methodology and specifically the long interview is the method the team will use to gain insight into adult patients' perceptions of their food story.
Microwave Ablation of Breast Tumors
Breast CancerThe purpose of this protocol is to pathologically evaluate the amount of destruction of cancer cells by Microwave Ablation (MWA) in primary breast tumors.
Developing Culturally-Tailored Information-Based Support Groups for Chinese Immigrants With Breast...
Chinese Immigrants With Breast CancerThere are few breast cancer support groups that focus on the specific needs of Chinese women. The purpose of this study is to learn about two different ways of providing support groups to help women of Chinese descent cope with the difficulties of a diagnosis of breast cancer and its treatment. The investigators want to learn about how best to support Chinese women with breast cancer by providing two different types of groups: an in-person support group and a virtual (online/phone) support group.
Plasma Circulating Tumor DNA Analyses in ER+ Metastatic Breast Cancer
Metastatic Breast CancerThe purpose of this study is to evaluate whether increased mutant ESR1 allele fraction in plasma ctDNA 3-6 weeks after initiating salvage endocrine therapy is predictive of progression free survival in patients with ER+ metastatic breast cancer.
Breast Cancer BRCA1 Carriers: a Pilot Study
BRCA1 MutationHigh-grade Serous Ovarian Cancer1 moreThe purpose of this study is to examine how a single dose of MIFEPREX® (mifepristone) affects the breast tissue in patients with BRCA1 (a gene that normally acts to restrain the growth of cells in the breast, but if it mutates may lead to breast cancer) mutations undergoing a planned prophylactic mastectomy (having one or both breasts removed).
Predicting Pathological Response Within the 1st Week of Chemotherapy Using Diffuse Optical Spectroscopic...
Breast CancerWomen with Breast Cancer who do not respond to chemotherapy may undergo months of treatment with little or no change in tumor size or overall outcome. The Researchers have demonstrated a previously undescribed "metabolic flare" response observed very early in neoadjuvant treatment in breast cancer patients. The research can determine that this flare is predictive of overall therapy response and is due to both an inflammatory reaction and cell death induced by cytotoxic therapy.
Hybrid Gamma Camera in Breast Surgery
Breast CancerA novel hand held hybrid optical-gamma camera (hereinafter referred to as the "camera") has been developed and can be used to image radiotracer distribution at the patient bedside. This study aims to evaluate the imaging capabilities of the camera in patients attending surgery for sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) procedure. It is anticipated that this could improve the accuracy and simplify sentinel lymph node detection by providing fused optical and gamma imaging.
Prospective Chart-Review: Impact of Combination - Digital Breast Tomosynthesis + Digital Mammography...
Breast CancerDigital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that has been developed to improve lesion detection in dense breasted women. Even though DBT has been regarded as a study for dense breasted women, it may also improve lesion detection at an earlier stage and smaller size in women with less dense breast tissue. The overlapping of tissue on a standard of care 2D mammogram leads to decreased cancer detection, it also contributes to pseudo lesions that mimic cancers. This leads to patients being asked to come back for additional imaging including mammogram and/or ultrasound images. DBT has shown to decrease call back rates by up to 43% in reader studies. Even though these results are promising they were not done in a realistic clinical setting. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the FDA-approved combination standard digital mammography (DM) and DBT technology and its impact on our clinical practice.
Comparing the Performance of Automated Breast Ultrasonography to Hand-Held Whole Breast Ultrasonography...
Breast CarcinomaThis study compares the performance of automated breast ultrasonography and conventional hand-held whole breast ultrasonography when checking for response to breast cancer treatment. Breast ultrasonography is operator dependent and time-intensive. Automated breast ultrasonography scanners were developed to allow standardization of ultrasound scanning and scanning to be performed by any technologist, with or without previous ultrasound experience, without physician involvement. This study may validate the use of the automated breast ultrasonography.
