Testing a Cognitive Behavioral Model for Reducing Dyspnea in Patients With Lung Cancer

Lung Non-Small Cell CarcinomaLung Small Cell Carcinoma

This trial studies the effect of a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy, Take a Breath, on reducing the intensity and frequency of dyspnea (difficulty breathing) in patients with lung cancer. Take a Breath consists of individual therapy sessions that educate patients on dyspnea and provides coping strategies.

Self-Management Intervention for Breathlessness in Lung Cancer

Lung CancerBreathlessness

The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability and practicality of a coaching and support intervention in helping patients to use daily strategies for managing breathlessness. Also, the investigators will try to understand how useful it is in helping patients to reduce intensity of breathlessness and its impact their quality of life.

Effect of Inspiratory Muscle Training During PR on Dyspnoea and Exercise Tolerance in COPD Patients...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a respiratory disease that results in progressive airflow limitation and respiratory distress. The benefit of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) combined with a pulmonary rehabilitation programme is uncertain. The investigators aimed to demonstrate that, in patients with obstructive pulmonary disease, IMT performed during a PRP is associated with an improvement of dyspnoea and exercise tolerance.

Breathibg Exercises and Inhaler Trainingfor Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Patients...

COPDBreathlessness1 more

The most common symptom of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is shortness of breath and causes a decrease in the patient's quality of life. The best way to relieve shortness of breath is inhaler therapy. However, it is known that patients frequently apply this treatment incorrectly. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of breathing exercises and inhaler training for COPD patients on the severity of dyspnea and life quality. For this, two patient groups with a total of 67 people were included in the study. While one group was trained on inhaler drug use, the other group was taught breathing exercises in addition to the inhaler drug use training. Patients were asked to continue the practices they learned regularly for 4 weeks. At the end of the study, it was observed that shortness of breath decreased and the quality of life increased in both patient groups.

Yoga On Dyspnea, Sleep And Fatıgue In Chronıc Respıratory Dıseases

Chronic Respiratory Disease

Although there are a limited number of studies in the literature investigating the effect of yoga on dyspnea, quality of life and respiratory functions of chronic respiratory patients There is no study examining the effect of yoga on sleep and fatigue of chronic respiratory patients. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of yoga on dyspnea, sleep, and fatigue applied to chronic respiratory patients.

Exercise Capacity and Dyspnea in Obese Patients With Metabolic Syndrome: Effects of Weight Loss...

ObesityMetabolic Syndrome

Dyspnea is a common complaint in obese patients. The mechanisms behind this dyspnea and the effects of weight loss on dyspnea are not completely understood. The objectives of this study were to examine the relationships between exercise parameters and dyspnea in obesity and assess the effects of weight loss. The investigators compared pulmonary function, exercise performance and dyspnea in 34 patients with abdominal obesity and metabolic syndrome (MS) against 34 age and sex-matched controls. The study also assessed within-group changes in physiology and symptoms in a subset of patients following participation in a weight management program. Because obesity is a heterogeneous condition, with variable genetic associations, co-morbidities and distributions of adipose tissue, the study focused on patients with abdominal obesity who met diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome.

Slow Chest Compression on Dynamic Hyperinflation, Dyspnea and Peripheral Muscle Deoxygenation in...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Background: Commonly, patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) present dyspnea, dynamic hyperinflation (DH) and important peripheral muscle deoxygenation when performing their activities of daily living (ADLs). The slow chest compression (SCC) technique is a physiotherapy strategy that could maybe reduce DH, dyspnea and peripheral muscle deoxygenation in patients with COPD. The aim of the study is to analyse the effects of SCC in DH, dyspnea and peripheral muscle deoxygenation induced by exercise tests. The secondary objective was to identify responders and non-responders to the technique. Design: Randomized cross-over study. Setting: The study will be conducted in an outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program in Florianopolis, Brazil Subjects: Patients with COPD (GOLD 2-4). Interventions: Patients will randomly receive or not the SCC after six-minute step test (6MST-SCC and 6MST-NonSCC). Main measures: At baseline and 1 minute after the tests, the inspiratory capacity (IC) will be assessed by the slow vital capacity (SVC) maneuver. At baseline, immediately after, and 1 minute after the tests, the dyspnea score will be assessed. The physiological responses and the peripheral muscle deoxygenation will be assessed during the tests and 1 minute after them.
