Acquisition and Utilization of Skills Using Innovative Smartphone Application for Regular Eating...
Bulimia NervosaBulimia3 moreThe study seeks to evaluate the acceptability, feasibility, target engagement, and validity of an innovative smartphone application with ecological momentary interventions to augment cognitive behavioral therapy for bulimia nervosa.
Eating Disorders: Online Self-help & Usual Treatment (TAU) vs TAU Only
Anorexia NervosaBulimia Nervosa2 moreA pilot study exploring whether individuals receiving usual treatment (CBT) from the specialist NHS Tayside Eating Disorders Service and accessing the online self-help "Smart Eating" programme have improved treatment outcomes compared to those receiving usual treatment only. The study will also explore acceptability of the "Smart Eating" self-help programme via a feedback questionnaire.
Topiramate for Binge Eating Disorder Among Adolescents
Eating DisordersBulimia NervosaThis is a study of topiramate to see whether topiramate decreases binge eating behavior among adolescents and young adults. The investigators did also checked whether topiramate affected cognitive function or not.
A Double Blind Clinical Trial of DCS for Food Anxiety
Anorexia and Bulimia NervosaThis is a pilot study investigating if cycloserine (DCS; a learning enhancement medication) augments exposure therapy for food anxiety in patients with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. The investigators expect that (a) exposure therapy will reduce anxiety (b) anxiety will be reduced more in the DCS relative to placebo condition (c) participants in the DCS condition will have a greater increase in Body Mass Index.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Adolescents With Bulimia
Bulimia NervosaWe are interested in studying two different psychological treatments for eating disorders for adolescents (ages 12-18). The study is designed to help adolescents who are having problems with binge eating and/or purging. The treatment consists of 14 sessions of approximately one-hour each over about three months.
Topiramate for the Treatment of Alcohol Dependent Binge-Eating Disordered Individuals
Alcohol DependenceBinge EatingThe purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of using topiramate to reduce binge eating and drinking episodes in alcohol dependent individuals with comorbid binge eating disorder.
Decision-making and Risk-taking in Bulimia
Bulimia NervosaThis trial is a set of four independent experiments involving for each of them functional and structural MRI data acquisition. They aim at investigating decision making mechanisms in bulimia nervosa when participants have to make food or monetary choices under specific conditions that mimic binge eating episodes or kleptomania which are two major symptoms of bulimia nervosa. All experiments are cross sectional studies. Each experiment is subdivided into two parts: a first part without any MRI data acquisition and during which all the tasks are performed. This part aims at making sure that a behavioral effect is observed before starting MRI data acquisition. The second part aims at investigating the neural correlates observed in the first part and additionally, at reproducing the behavioral effects observed in the first part. Therefore the first part may be regarded as an independent study as compared to the second part.
Binge Eating & Birth Control
Bulimia NervosaBinge Eating2 moreThis pilot study examines the effect of stabilizing ovarian hormones on eating behaviors and brain activation in women with binge eating (n=15) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and behavioral tests. This is completed by taking oral contraceptives (birth control) continuously for three months. Prior to medication administration and at the end of treatment, eating behaviors will be measured and fMRI will be conducted in order to examine changes in activation in dopamine-reward pathways that occur with oral contraceptive administration. This will assess changes in brain activation that occur with the stabilization of ovarian hormones.
Effects of LDX on Cognitive Processes and Appetite
Binge EatingEating BehaviorThis study will investigate the effect of lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) on the mediating factors of reward and cognition on appetite.
Effect of a CCK-1R Agonist on Food Intake in Humans
BulimiaThe ultimate aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that the oral cholecystokinin (CCK) agonist GSKI181771X will reduce the size of a binge meal among individuals with Bulimia Nervosa. The study will be conducted in phases. First, an effective dose for reducing food intake, when normal subjects eat normally will be attained. Next, it will be determined whether intake at this dose is reduced in control subjects instructed to eat to capacity. If the dose is still effective compared to placebo, the same dose will be tested in patients with bulimia nervosa.
