Caregiver BurdenMental Health Issue1 more

The Central idea of the proposed research proposal is first to translate adapt and validate the Caregiver Difficulties Scale & Positive Psychotherapy sessions based manual into Urdu language then secondly, assessment of burnout, burden, depression, mental wellbeing, sense of coherence and social support among caregivers of Cerebral palsy children and finally measuring the effectiveness of Positive Psychotherapy for treating mental health issues of caregivers of Cerebral Palsy children. This research proposal will provide an Urdu language based standardized positive psycho therapeutic based intervention to mental health practitioners for treating mental health issues of caregivers of cerebral palsy children in sociocultural context of Pakistan. In Pakistan earlier conducted researches mainly focused on assessment of mental health issues of caregivers of cerebral palsy children, however present research will not only assess the sample regarding their mental health issues, but in addition it will also contribute in provision of psychometrically sound Urdu language based positive Psychotherapy. Positive Psychotherapy focuses on positive emotions and personal strengths instead of ruminating over weaknesses.

Treatment to Improve Sleep in Caregivers With Insomnia and a Child With Autism

Autism Spectrum DisorderInsomnia Chronic1 more

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) represents one of the most perplexing neurobiological disorders with a prevalence of 1 in 54 children. The lifelong challenging and disruptive behaviors often associated with ASD requires caregivers to change their behavior and modify their environments to provide an ecosystem for optimal outcomes for their child, family and themselves. ASD behaviors can have significant impact on caregivers mental health and family functioning, including the ability to develop and maintain healthy sleep routines. The caregiving population in US has a high prevalence of insomnia; two thirds of caregivers experiencing difficulties falling and/or staying asleep. The prevalence of insomnia in children with ASD is equally high, 60-80% experiencing night waking contributing to poor daytime behavior and disrupted sleep in the caregivers. This pilot RCT will focus on improving caregivers sleep in the context of caring for a child with ASD and insomnia with a multi-disciplinary team. The investigators will compare a home-based tailored CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I) versus a web-based Way to Health CBT-I intervention. This data will support a larger RCT with the Department of Defense funding opportunity through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program. This Autism Research Program focuses on improving lives of those living with ASD.

Intercare, Mindfulness and Compassion Based Intervention for Parental Burnout

Parental BurnoutBurnout2 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effectiveness of an adapted mindfulness and compassion-based intervention (IBAP) in reducing parental burnout in Chilean mothers who telework while living with children under 18 years old. The main questions it aims to answer are: Can the intervention reduce symptoms of parental burnout in the short term (3 months) and medium-term (6 and 9 months) compared to the control group? Can the intervention improve work engagement in the intervention group compared to the control group? Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the active control group. The intervention group will receive the IBAP program while the active control group will receive a relaxation audio guide. Both group will receive parental burnout educational material, invitation to a Whatsapp group and a weekly email reminders. Parental Burnout (PBA) will be measured at baseline, 3, 6, and 9 months, and work engagement will be measured at the same time points. Researchers will compare the intervention group to the active control group to see if the IBM program is more effective in reducing parental burnout and improving work engagement,

Feasibility of the Heart to Heart Yoga Program

Heart FailureCaregiver Burden3 more

A two-group (intervention vs. usual care), randomized controlled design will be used to determine the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention, the Heart2Heart program, and determine efficacy on physical and psychological outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) and caregivers. A total of 20 patients with HF and 20 caregivers (n= 40) will be randomly assigned to the intervention or usual care group stratified by patient and caregiver groups. Only participants in the intervention will be asked to attend the 12-week sessions (two sessions per week; a total of 24 sessions in 12 weeks) via video conferencing (i.e., ZOOM). The short-term intervention efficacy will be assessed following week of the completion of 12-weeks sessions. Primary psychological outcomes include depressive symptoms, anxiety, stress, and quality of life. Primary physical outcomes include physical activity level, sleep quality, and perceived symptoms.

Neurorehabilitation Through Hippotherapy of a Brain Stroke

Cerebrovascular AccidentNeurorehabilitation9 more

Cerebrovascular accident [CVA] (medical term for stroke) is a high burden worldwide disorder and the second leading cause of disability. As illustrated by the number of survivors that remain disabled after a CVA (2 out of 3 according to the US National Stroke Association), recovery is limited, and novel neurorehabilitation approaches are urgently needed. Hippotherapy is an emerging specialized rehabilitation approach, performed by accredited health professionals on a specially trained horse via its movement. A body of scientific evidence has gradually emerged in recent years, showing robust benefits of hippotherapy in various massive neurological disabling conditions including brain stroke. The aim of the study is to analyze the effect of a hippotherapy program of several cycles delivered during 22 weeks in total, on the functional and global evolution of post-stroke patients (with a score of Rankin ≥ 3 at inclusion) during the outpatient rehabilitation phase. A second purpose is to measure the impact of the intervention on the quality of life of their close caregivers. A prospective clinical trial on the effectiveness of hippotherapy versus conventional outpatient rehabilitation alone will be carried out. The 22-weeks program includes three cycles of hippotherapy as follows: an initial 2-weeks cycle, an intermediate 1-week cycle and a final 1-week cycle. One-hour daily sessions will be conducted during each cycle exclusive additional rehabilitation care. After each cycle, the patients will have a 9-weeks rest period where they will continue their conventional therapy. A battery of clinical tests will measure both functional and psychological outcome. The primary end point will be the functional independence of the patient. The secondary end points will consider the patient's sensorimotor and cognitive function, the severity of stroke and the quality of life, as well as the caregivers' burden and quality of life. Program evaluation is important in neurorehabilitation to ensure that patients are achieving meaningful outcomes from the care. A primary question is how do stroke patients clinically evolve after being discharged from the hospital and how stable is the achieved rehabilitation outcome. Hippotherapy optimizes brain plasticity and has a strong impact on the global rehabilitation process and functional outcome of these patients. A remaining question concerns the improvement of the caregivers' quality of life.
