A Phase I, Single-blind, Randomized Study of the Safety and Efficacy of Cellularized Integra® Using...
BurnsBurn injuries are one of the most severe skin injuries and lead to a complex wound healing response. When the skin is wounded, stem cells in the skin must respond fast to help repair the injured tissue. The damaged skin of burn patients contains cells that are still alive and have typical stem cell characteristics. Because stem cells are so important for wound healing, the investigators have combined them with an existing skin substitute, Integra®, to examine the potential wound healing benefits of these stem cells. This is an investigational treatment and a first in-human trial. The purpose of this study is to test the safety of using a patient's own stem cells combined with Integra®, which the investigators call Integra®-Stem Cells (Integra®-SC). The investigators hypothesize that Integra®-SC will result in improved wound healing, better scar quality, and decreased scar formation at one-year post-injury.

Burn SurgeryDobutamineThis is a randomized double-blinded study to investigate in which the groups are designated as the control group and the goal-directed fluid therapy group to further evaluate significant differences in rate of complications during burn surgery.
Cosmetic and Functional Sequelae in Hand Burns.
Hand BurnAlthough it represents a small percentage of the body surface, the hand is the most exposed part of the body after the face and neck and is one of the area's most frequently involved in burns. It has a social function, but above all, a functionnal one. An optimized reconstruction of this area after the burn allow the patient to recover the best possible function and increase his chances of returning to professional activity and daily life. Advances in burn treatment, such as improved resuscitation management, rapid excision of burns, skin grafting, regular dressings, and improved metabolic support, have reduced the morbidity and mortality of severe burns. However, significant challenges remain. The hand is the most frequently involved area in burns and is affected in 90% of severe burns. Hand burns requiring releasing incisions are circular, deep burns and represent a significant functional challenge. In the acute setting, current treatment options must prevent complications associated with disruption of the skin's protective function. In the longer term, these treatments should allow the regeneration of fully functional skin. However, some sequelae may persist in the form of sensory deficits, residual pain, retractile scars hindering function in this highly mobile area, or even aesthetic sequelae. The aim of our study was to perform a descriptive analysis of the aesthetic and functional sequelae related to hand burns that required acute realeasing incisions using objective and subjective tools available in the medical records (demographic, clinical and follow-up data in the context of routine care). This retrospective, non-interventional, data-driven study would provide an overview of the sequelae of hand burns with current therapies.
Clinical Assessment of Burns in Norway
BurnsClinical assessment of burn depth and area can be challenging even for experienced surgeons. Still, the assessment is fundamental for the treatment, as it determines the fluid treatment and indication for escharotomy and need for referral to a burn centre. There are few studies comparing the initial evaluation of burn depth and surface with that of a specialist burn centre. The aim of this study was to make such a comparison for a cohort of patients admitted to a specialist burn centre during one year. The cohort was defined as patients transferred to the burn unit at Haukeland university hospital during 2014.
Reducing Patient Memory Recall in the Burning Mouth Patient Population
Burning Mouth SyndromeThe goal of this study is to learn about burning mouth syndrome symptoms in real time in patients with burning mouth syndrome. The main questions it aims to answer are: (1) To test the ability of a smartphone app to collect repeated observations of individual data to assess fluctuations in BMS symptoms (pain) at multiple points in the day as they happen; (2) To evaluate a panel of salivary biomarkers in patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) and to study their relationship with clinical variables. With a collaboration between Penn Dental Medicine and Wharton School of Business, our proposal aims to vastly improve the characterization of burning mouth syndrome through the use of a smartphone app and/or text-based notification. Participants will attend 2 study visits where they will complete questionnaires and provide saliva samples and will respond to notifications/text message prompts on their smart phone 3 times a day for 12 weeks.

Effects of Applying Streaming Media on Reducing Pain in Patient With Second-degree Burn During Changing...
BurnsPain2 moreDuring the acute phase of burn injuries, the focus for patients is primarily on wound pain and infection care. Patients often describe the pain during dressing changes as a sharp, stabbing sensation. Pain is a distressing experience for burn injury patients, affecting both their physical and mental well-being, as well as influencing wound healing. The pain caused by dressing changes is a significant issue that leads to physical and emotional suffering for patients.
The Role of Nutrition After Minor Burns
BurnsNutritional DeficiencyNutrition therapy has an important role in burn care to optimize wound healing, prevent muscle wasting, improve immune function and decrease risk of infection and sepsis. The body of literature concerning major burns´nutritional requirements has increased over the last decades, however the role of nutrition after minor burns (TBSA < 20 %) is virtually unexplored and in need of further investigation. Hence, this study explores if adequate nutritional status after minor burn results in better outcome.
