Potential Benefits of Laser Treatment on Skin Blood Flow and Sweating in Burn Survivors
Burn InjuryThe purpose of this study is to examine effects of laser therapy on blood flow and sweating responses in burn-injured skin.
Burning Mouth Syndrome - New Diagnostic Criteria and Treatment
Burning Mouth SyndromeThe first part of this study is to optimize diagnostic criteria for BMS, i.e. not a clinical trial, and will not be covered in this application. The second part will compare topical treatment with clonazepam, capsaicin and placebo in a n-of-1 study design regarding effects of pain, pain-related disability, somatosensory changes in the trigeminal nerve and patient experience in patients with primary BMS or other oral mucosal pain. The patients will be treated for two weeks with each drug, with a one-week wash-out period in between. After the last washed-out period, the patients will be able to chose the treatment that they prefer the most and continue with that treatment during 6 months.
Pain and Itch Reduction in Burn Scars Treated With Fractional CO2 Laser
Hypertrophic ScarBurn ScarHypertrophic Burn Scars (HTBS) are often treated with Fractional CO2 laser therapy to improve cosmetic appearance. It has been noted that this leads to a reduction in the pain and itch associated with this type of scars. While this phenomenon is commonly described in the literature, the mechanism of pain and itch reduction in unclear. The investigators aim to better understand this process by histological evaluation of HTBS at different stages of laser treatment.
Efficacy of Selected Exercises on Bone Mineral Density in Post-burn Patients
BurnsPURPOSE: to assess the efficacy of Qigong exercise on bone mineral density in post-burned patient. BACKGROUND: During severe burns, more than 7% of the vertebral bone mineral density (BMD) is lost within 3-6 weeks of the injury and about 3% of the total body bone content is lost during the first 6 months after the injury. Qigong exercise has been shown to be effective at attenuating declines in BMD and improving both balance performance and balance confidence in healthy middle-aged and older adults. There are lack in knowledge and information in published studies about the efficacy of Qigong exercise on bone mineral density in post-burned patient. So, this study will be designed to provide a guideline about the efficacy of Qigong exercise on bone mineral density in post-burned patient. HYPOTHESES: It will be hypothesized that: It was hypothesized that Qigong exercise has no or limited effect in bone mineral density in post-burned patient. RESEARCH QUESTION: Does Qigong exercise an effect on bone mineral density in post-burned patient?
Exploring the Correlation Between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Perceived Stress and Scar Pruritus...
BurnsScar Pruritus2 morePruritus, post traumatic stress disorder and perceived stress are common issues in burn patients. The correlation between the three is unclear so far. This study will collect data among adult patients with hypertrophic scars 21 days after the burn event has occurred. Using a Chinese version of the 5D itch scale,Chinese version of the posttraumatic diagnostic scale and Perceived Stress Scale to investigate self-reported postburn pruritus, post traumatic stress disorder and perceived stress. The patients will be wearing the smart watch for one month to collect data on their stress levels. This data will be used to analyze the correlation between posttraumatic stress syndrome, perceived stress and scar pruritus. There will be two rounds of data collection. The first will be when the smart watch is issued to patients, and the second will be at the end of the one month period.
Effect of Laser Puncture on Liver Enzymes Post Burn
BurnsProcedures of laser puncture: The treatment procedures will start after the patient's release from the intensive care unit. The patient will be in a comfortable position. The patient will wear protective eyeglasses. The points for the application of laser acupuncture will be cleaned before application. All patients in the study group will be submitted to an infrared diode laser, wavelength 808 nm, Pulse duration: 200 ms, Power density: 0.4 W/cm2, energy density 4 J/cm2. The plug of the laser unit will be inserted into the main current supply and the on/off switch will be switched on. The therapy form will be selected from the main menu and then the parameters will be set. Acupuncture detector (Pointer Excel II) will be used for the definite location of acupuncture points. Laser probe will be placed in contact with the skin perpendicular over the body acupoints Zusanli (ST36), Taichong (LR3), Tanyinjiao (SP6), Ganshu (BL18), Yan-glingquan (GB34) and Zhongwan (RN12) in both sides, with a duration of 90 sec for each point three times per week for a month.
Investigation of the Clinical Performance of Biatain Fiber Ag on Burns
Partial-thickness BurnThe goal of this study is to test a new gelling fiber wound dressing with silver on patients with a partial thickness burn wound, which is infected or at risk of infection. Participants will be asked to wear the test dressing in a two weeks period(+/- 2 days) consisting of 3-4 study visits, and will have the dressing changed once pr. week at the research facility. The wound will be cleaned, assessed and photos will be uploaded to a digital software system.
Study to Evaluate the Performance and Safety of the Medical Device Argogen
Burn WoundPressure Ulcers Stage II1 moreA wound, i.e., a break in the skin, can result from several reasons. Pressure ulcers (also called pressure sores, bed sores and decubitus ulcers) are localized damage to the skin and underlying soft tissue usually over a bony prominence or related to a medical or other device, occurring as a result of intense and/or prolonged pressure or pressure in combination with shear. Burn wounds result from traumatic injuries to the skin or other tissues primarily caused by heat, electrical discharge, friction, chemicals, or radiation. Burns are acute wounds caused by an isolated, non-recurring insult. The Medical Device Argogen® (adsorbing spray powder for exudates with silver ions) consists of silver zeolite powder, combining in a single physical form the adsorbing properties of the zeolite structure and the antimicrobial properties of silver. Its action is due to the porous structure of zeolite that actively absorbs and control wounds exudate, keeping clean and dry the environment of small skin lesions, as wounds, abrasions, minor burns and bedsores. The association with silver ions gives to the medical device the additional property of an antimicrobial effect. The present study is to confirm that in a population of men and women presenting minor burn wounds (superficial or superficial / deep partial thickness) or chronic pressure ulcers stage 2 or 3 - NPUAP Classification (partial-thickness skin loss with exposed dermis or full-thickness skin loss) the medical device already CE marked Argogen® (adsorbing spray powder for exudates with silver ions) safely attests its capacity to promote wound healing, evaluated as percentage (%) of subjects with objective signs of wound healing (evaluated by mean of VSS score reduction for burn wounds or PUSH tool score reduction for pressure ulcers), results observed after 2 and 4 weeks after the beginning of the treatment.
Clinical Utility of Robot-Assisted Gait Training in Patients With Spinal Cord Injury Caused by Electrical...
Gait DisorderSensorimotor2 moreRobot-assisted gait training has been effective in several diseases. Nevertheless, evidence supporting the efficacy of such training in burn patients remains insufficient. This report aimed to evaluate the effect of robot-assisted gait training in burn patients with spinal cord injuries caused by electrical trauma. We will report a case of two patients who underwent 30 min of robot-assisted gait training using SUBAR® (Cretem, Korea) with 30 min of conventional physiotherapy, 5 days a week for 12 weeks.
Inulin in Burn-induced Insulin Resistance
Burn InjuryInsulin Resistance1 moreIn this clinical trial, investigators will test the effects of dietary supplement inulin, on the reduction of insulin resistance developed as a result of burn injuryy.
