Oral Iron vs. Placebo in Newly Diagnosed Gynecologic Oncology Patients Who Are Surgical Candidates....

Ovarian CancerCervical Cancer2 more

The prevalence of anemia in gynecologic oncology new patients has been seen in previous studies to be as high as 35-59%. this population includes women with several types of gynecologic malignancies. Therefore, it is assumed that the origin of the anemia can be due to anemia of chronic disease and iron deficiency anemia. No previous studies have looked at the efficacy of oral iron supplementation with concurrent Vitamin C in women with newly diagnosed gynecologic malignancies. Hypothesis: In newly diagnosed gynecologic oncology patients who are surgical candidates does treatment with 3-6 weeks of oral ferrous fumarate 300 mg once a day improve the mean change in hemoglobin levels, from baseline to pre-operative, in comparison to placebo.

The SAFE Study: Satisfaction and Adherence to Follow-Up With Colposcopy Exams

Uterine Cervical DysplasiaUterine Cervix Cancer

This study is intended to improve the patient experience of communication of colposcopy results and follow-up recommendations to patients. Current practice involves results being forwarded from the colposcopy clinic to the family or referring physician who then informs the patient. We are testing an intervention informed by focus groups in which a trained colposcopy nurse (patient liaison) directly contacts patients with their results and follow-up recommendations while providing education and support. We will examine whether this intervention improves patient satisfaction, reduces anxiety, and improves rates of adherence to follow-up and treatment appointments compared to the current practice.

The Effect of Face-to-face and Online Health Education on Women's Cervical Cancer Knowledge, Health...

Early Detection of Cancer

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of health education given by two different methods on women's knowledge about HPV, cervical cancer health belief and screening test. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in a parallel groups design as a single-blind randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 126 healthy participants, 42 in each volunteer group, who were registered at the Martyr Zafer Çalışkan Family Health Center in Ankara between January and July 2023, and met the inclusion criteria. HPV Knowledge scale, Cervical Cancer and pap Smear Test Health Belief Model Scale and VAS for self-assessment were used in the study. In the study, while the control group received standard care, the face-to-face education group was given health education and brochures through home visits and a reminder interview over the phone; On the other hand, the online training group was given health education and a digital brochure via video call and a reminder meeting was held once. One-way analysis of variance and Kruskal Wallis test were used to compare the data of the three groups after a two-month follow-up, Tukey and Dunn test for multiple comparisons, and Wilcoxon test for in-group comparisons before and after. In addition, two-way analysis of variance and Robust ANOVA were used in group and time comparisons.

Prevention of Cervical Cancer Through an HPV-based Screen-and-treat Strategy in Malawi

Cervical Cancer

The purpose of the study is to determine the acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility of implementing new strategies to screen and treat eligible women for cervical cancer through a cluster randomized trial of two different models. Both models offer the same screening and treatment algorithm, but one will be based in Voluntary Family Planning (VFP) or other clinics and the second will be based in the community. Participants will be recruited from two districts in Malawi with the highest HIV prevalence in the country: Lilongwe in the Central Region and Zomba in the Southern Region.
