Pilot Study of Denileukin Diftitox Plus High-Dose IL-2 for Patients With Metastatic Renal Cancer...
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Combinations of biological substances in denileukin diftitox may be able to carry tumor-killing substances directly to kidney cancer cells. Interleukin-2 may stimulate the white blood cells to kill kidney cancer cells. Giving denileukin diftitox together with interleukin-2 may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I trial is studying the side effects of denileukin diftitox and interleukin-2 in treating patients with metastatic kidney cancer.

Bortezomib in Treating Patients With Metastatic Kidney Cancer
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Bortezomib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well bortezomib works in treating patients with metastatic kidney cancer.

Chemotherapy and Biological Therapy in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced or Metastatic Kidney...
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Biological therapies such as interferon alfa use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop cancer cells from growing. Combining biological therapy with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combining chemotherapy with biological therapy in treating patients who have locally advanced or metastatic kidney cancer.

Monoclonal Antibody Therapy in Treating Patients With Advanced Kidney Cancer
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of monoclonal antibody therapy in treating patients with advanced kidney cancer.

Tretinoin Plus Interferon Alfa in Treating Patients With Metastatic Kidney Cancer
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Tretinoin may help kidney cancer cells develop into normal cells. Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal tretinoin plus interferon alfa in treating patients who have metastatic kidney cancer.

Piritrexim in Treating Patients With Advanced Cancer of the Urinary Tract
Bladder CancerTransitional Cell Cancer of the Renal Pelvis and Ureter1 moreRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of piritrexim in treating patients with advanced cancer of the urinary tract that has not responded to previous treatment.

Biological Therapy Plus Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Metastatic or Recurrent Kidney Cancer...
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Biological therapies use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop cancer cells from growing. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining biological therapy with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of biological therapy plus chemotherapy in treating patients with metastatic or recurrent kidney cancer.

S0031, ZD 1839 in Treating Patients With Advanced Cancer of the Urinary Tract
Bladder CancerTransitional Cell Cancer of the Renal Pelvis and Ureter1 moreRATIONALE: Biological therapies such as ZD 1839 may interfere with the growth of the tumor cells and slow the growth of cancer of the urinary tract. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of ZD 1839 in treating patients who have advanced cancer of the urinary tract.

ZD 1839 in Treating Patients With Stage IV or Recurrent Kidney Cancer
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Biological therapies such as ZD 1839 may interfere with the growth of the tumor cells and slow the growth of kidney cancer. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of ZD 1839 in treating patients who have recurrent or stage IV kidney cancer.

Radiofrequency Interstitial Tissue Ablation in Treating Patients With Localized Renal Cell Carcinoma...
Kidney CancerRATIONALE: Radiofrequency interstitial tissue ablation may kill tumor cells by heating tumors to several degrees above body temperature. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying radiofrequency interstitial tissue ablation to see how well it works in treating patients with localized renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
