RATIONALE: Sorafenib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well sorafenib works in treating patients with ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or peritoneal cancer in at least the second remission.

This trial is a Phase Ib/II study of carboplatin/gemcitabine/vorinostat for the treatment of platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. The carboplatin and gemcitabine combination is an FDA approved regimen for platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. Vorinostat is a type of drug called a histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDAC inhibitor). HDAC inhibitors interact with chromosomes in the cancer cell and cause cancer cells to stop growing. Vorinostat has shown a decrease in the amount of ovarian cancer cells growing in the laboratory and also may enhance the anti-cancer effects of carboplatin.The purpose of the Phase Ib study is to determine the highest dose of the drug vorinostat that can be given safely in combination with carboplatin and gemcitabine. Not everyone who participates in this research study will receive the same dose of the study drug, vorinostat, but carboplatin and gemcitabine doses are held constant. Vorinostat doses depend on previous enrollment and tolerability. The expansion Phase II study uses the vorinostat dose found in the Phase Ib study in combination with carboplatin/gemcitabine and as a single agent maintenance therapy to better understand toxicity and efficacy.

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Phenoxodiol may help docetaxel work better by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I/II trial is studying the side effects of docetaxel when given together with either phenoxodiol or placebo and to see how well it works in treating patients with recurrent advanced ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cavity cancer.

The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy and safety of an experimental drug, OMP-305B83, when given in combination with paclitaxel. OMP-305B83 is a humanized monoclonal antibody and was developed to target cancer stem cells. Based on preclinical studies, it is believed that OMP-305B83 may block the growth of cancer stem cells and may also impair the productive growth of new blood vessels, which tumors need to grow and spread.

This is an open-label, prospective, multicenter, randomized Phase III, clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of trabectedin in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carrier and BRCAness phenotype advanced ovarian cancer patients in comparison to physician' choice chemotherapy. Arm A: Trabectedin 1.3 mg/mq d1 q 21 in 3 hours (central line) Arm B: Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin 40 mg/mq q 28 or Topotecan 4 mg/mq dd 1,8,15 q 28 or Gemcitabine 1000 mg/mq dd 1, 8, 15 q 28 Weekly Paclitaxel 80 mg/mq gg 1, 8, 15 q 28 Carboplatin AUC 5-6 q 21 or 28 Patients will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to treatment arms. This phase II trial studies how well Avatar-directed chemotherapy works in treating patients with ovarian, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer that does not respond to platinum anti-cancer drugs. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, gemcitabine hydrochloride, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride, topotecan hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Using an Avatar, a living tumor sample with similar genetic characteristics to the original tumor, may help determine which chemotherapy is most effective.

This pilot early phase I trial studies talazoparib to determine if certain characteristics of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) affect how the disease responds to therapy in patients with ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer that has spread to other places in the body and usually cannot be cured or controlled with treatment (advanced). Studying samples of tissue in the laboratory from patients receiving talazoparib may help doctors learn more about the effects of talazoparib on cells and may help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment.
