The HEART Study (Healthy Eating and Recovery Together)
Head and Neck CancerSurvivorship1 moreHead and neck cancer survivors and their primary caregivers (N=25 dyads) will be enrolled to pilot test a nutrition support system with a care planning clinic visit and a caregiver mobile App. Participants will be asked to complete baseline and 6-week follow-up surveys. The clinic session (offered in person or remotely) will include a needs assessment and a tailored care plan with information, educational materials and referrals about participants' symptoms, behaviors, social concerns and caregiving tasks. After the visit, the program will provide an App for caregivers with follow-up resources and mobile support for one month.

Sensory changes can be side effects of chemotherapy or ionizing radiation, which damages sensory receptors in the area of radiation, disrupts the function of the salivary glands, leading to hyposalivation and a decrease in taste. Individual choice of nutrition based on sensory sensations can significantly improve the quality of life of patients and ensure timely correction of their eating behavior.

This study examines the investigational drug SCV-07 and it's possible application in treating Oral Mucositis. Studies have shown that SCV-07 can possibly increase a broad immune system response, thus lowering the painful side effects experienced when treated for head and neck cancer. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of SCV-07 and it's ability to delay the onset of Oral Mucositis for patients receiving chemoradiation for head and neck cancer.
