The implementation of liquid biopsy in clinical practice has been favored by the rapid development of genome sequencing techniques designed to analyze mutations in ctDNA. Among these, the Next generation sequencing (NGS) is a technique that consists in sequencing several genomes in a short time span, collecting information about a wider range of genomic alterations, using small quantities of genetic material. It is used to identify potential circulating dynamic biomarkers of treatment sensitivity or resistance in a real word multi-pathology evaluation. In this way, defining the mutational status of clinical relevance genes in real world, as a predictive biomarker to identify those patients most likely to benefit from target therapy, offers the potential to optimize access to further therapies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the real-world prevalence of clinically useful mutations in patients who are receiving therapy for advanced and locally advanced solid tumor through liquid biopsy.

Using Reiki Therapy to Improve Symptoms Associated With Brachytherapy in Patients With Gynecological...

The goal of this open label, randomized, controlled clinical trial is to assess the benefits of providing Reiki therapy to subjects receiving their first brachytherapy treatment for gynecological malignancies. Participants will either receive a session of Reiki therapy or usual care during the standard wait time between the placement of the brachytherapy device and brachytherapy treatment. Questionnaires will be administered at various time points on the day of the participant's first brachytherapy treatment as well as at the three month follow-up time point. Researchers will compare the intervention (Reiki therapy) and control (usual care) groups to assess the impact of the Reiki therapy on anxiety, pain, state anxiety, depression, and physiological measurements.

The objective of this hybrid effectiveness-implementation study is to examine the effects of an EHR-based cardiovascular health assessment tool (AH-HA) among breast, prostate, colorectal, endometrial, and Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer survivors (N=600) receiving survivorship care in community oncology practices, using a group-randomized trial design (6 intervention practices and 6 usual care practices). Our central hypothesis is that the AH-HA tool will increase (1) cardiovascular health (CVH) discussions among survivors and oncology providers, (2) referrals and visits to primary care and cardiology (care coordination), and (3) cardiovascular (CV) risk reduction and health promotion activities compared to usual care.

The number of women diagnosed with uterine cancer continues to rise each year. Since the early 1990s, there has been almost 55% rise in the United Kingdom (UK). 34% of endometrial cancer can be attributed to obesity. In the obese state, the function of adipose tissue deteriorates resulting in a state of chronic inflammation. Adipocytokine-related signalling pathways promote cancer development by causing inflammation, cell proliferation, DNA damage and by inhibiting apoptosis. The investigators postulate that adipocytokines levels are significantly different in uterine cancer patients of different weight categories and different grade/stage/ type of tumour. Any woman attending the hospital with endometrial cancer and receiving treatment here will be invited to participate in the study. Consent will be sought to obtain 30mls (2 1/2 tablespoons) of venous blood at the time of surgery, on day 1 post-surgery and 3/6 months post-surgery during routine follow-up to check biomarker (adiponectin, leptin, tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, Insulin-like growth factors 1 and 2) levels to see if the markers can be used to assess response to treatment. The investigators will also get consent to collect tissue - adipose tissue (after surgery) and uterine cancer tissue and lymph nodes (after histo-pathological evaluation) to assess for biomarkers. The investigators will also obtain blood samples from patients undergoing chemotherapy for advanced stage endometrial. All tissues procured will be anonymised and analysed at the oncology laboratory, Leggett building, University of Surrey and later correlated with patients' medical data as well as with tumour grade, stage and type. The investigators will also use archival tissue blocks stored at the same laboratory for analysis (previously consented for use in research). These are anonymised tissue and there is no link to patients' data. The aim would be to ultimately find immuno-stimulatory/ suppressive biomarkers in order to develop novel diagnostic/ prognostic tools.

Physical Activity Promotion for Breast and Endometrial Cancer Survivors

There are 3,000,000 breast and 760,000 endometrial cancer survivors in the US and these populations will grow 30% by 2026. Increased moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) is consistently associated with enhanced quality of life, reduced chronic disease risk, and improved cancer prognosis in these survivors yet 70-90% fail to engage in the 150 minutes/week of MVPA recommended by the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately, since physical activity support is not a part of standard survivorship care, few survivors have access to efficacious MVPA interventions. A key barrier to translation of MVPA promotion into care is the design of existing programs, which are resource-intensive, costly, and deliver multiple components (i.e., coaching calls, supervised exercise) simultaneously to all participants. This "one-size-fits-all" approach does not account for individual needs, nor can it realistically be implemented into care. Thus there is a critical need for effective, scalable interventions that efficiently allocate resources to meet each woman's needs.
