Marimastat Following Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Marimastat may stop the growth of lung cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. It is not yet known if marimastat is an effective treatment for small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of marimastat with a placebo following chemotherapy in treating patients who have small cell lung cancer.

Amifostine, Chemotherapy, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell...

Drug/Agent Toxicity by Tissue/OrganLung Cancer1 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Drugs such as amifostine may protect normal cells from the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of amifostine plus chemotherapy and radiation therapy in treating patients who have limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have small cell lung cancer.

Radiation Therapy Plus Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining more than one chemotherapy drug with radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of radiation therapy plus combination chemotherapy in treating patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

Monoclonal Antibody Therapy Plus BCG in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. BCG may activate the immune system to kill tumor cells. Combining monoclonal antibody therapy with BCG may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known if monoclonal antibody therapy plus BCG is an effective treatment for limited-stage small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of monoclonal antibody therapy plus BCG in treating patients who have limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

Fenretinide in Treating Patients With Recurrent Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of fenretinide in treating patients who have recurrent small cell lung cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die.

7-Hydroxystaurosporine and Irinotecan Hydrochloride in Treating Patients With Metastatic or Unresectable...

Advanced Adult Primary Liver CancerCarcinoma of the Appendix87 more

This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving 7-hydroxystaurosporine together with irinotecan hydrochloride in treating patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors, including triple-negative breast cancer (currently enrolling only patients with triple-negative breast cancer since 6/8/2007). Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving 7-hydroxystaurosporine together with irinotecan hydrochloride may help kill more cancer cells by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug.

Cisplatin, Etoposide, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung...

PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving cisplatin and etoposide together with radiation therapy works in treating patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Recurrent or Refractory Small Cell Lung Cancer...

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have recurrent or refractory small cell lung cancer.

Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known which radiation therapy regimen is more effective in preventing brain metastases in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer while taking into account chronic neurotoxicity from radiation therapy. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial compares the incidence of chronic neurotoxicity between three different brain irradiation regimens. The corresponding phase III component addressing the prevention of brain metastases was run by EORTC and reported separately (NCT00005062).
