Perflutren Protein-Type A Microspheres and Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in Improving Response to...

Hepatocellular Carcinoma

This phase II trial studies how well perflutren protein-type A microspheres and contrast-enhanced ultrasound work in improving response to radioembolization therapy in patients with liver cancer. Ultrasound contrast agents, such as perflutren protein-type A microspheres, use gas microbubbles to improve image quality. Using contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging will "pop" these microbubbles and cause tumors to become more sensitive to radiation therapies.

PET Imaging-guided Chemoradiotherapy in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

NeoplasmEsophageal1 more

Since multiple studies have demonstrated that PET can identify responders and non-responders to induction chemotherapy, using FDG-PET imaging to guide treatment decisions has prompted interest in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether changing chemotherapy regimen during radiation based on PET response to induction chemotherapy can improve clinical complete response (cCR) in patients with unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Quality of Life After Primary TORS vs IMRT for Patients With Early-stage Oropharyngeal Squamous...

Oropharynx CancerOropharynx Squamous Cell Carcinoma20 more

Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is now the most frequently diagnosed head and neck cancer in Denmark which is mainly due to the increase of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Patients with HPV-positive OPSCC have a significantly higher survival rate compared to HPV-negative OPSCC. The traditional primary treatment modality in Denmark is Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and in advanced stages in combination with chemotherapy. Since 2009, Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) has enabled surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery as an alternative to standard radiotherapy treatment which is considered the primary treatment for OPSCC in many countries. There is a lack of randomised trials comparing long-term functional outcomes after TORS or IMRT. Current data are mostly derived from retrospective studies with selection bias. However, several small retrospective studies have shown promising results when comparing the two treatment modalities in favour of TORS with regards to treatment related swallowing function and quality of life (QoL) without compromising survival outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the early and long-term functional outcomes following two treatment arms 1) TORS combined with neck dissection and 2) IMRT±concurrent chemotherapy with a special focus on swallowing-related QoL.

Adjuvant Immunotherapy After Salvage Surgery in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Two randomized trials of reirradiation after salvage surgery have been conducted by the GETTEC and GORTEC collaborative groups, both members of the French HN Intergroup: The first trial compared reirradiation and a "wait and see attitude" and was published in 2008 [1]. The second trial compared two modalities of reirradiation. Our hypothesis is that adjuvant treatment with immunotherapy will lead to a DFS similar to that observed in previous trials of post-operative reirradiation with possibly lower toxicity.

Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) in DCIS

Breast CancerDuctal Carcinoma in Situ

The goal of this study is to examine the role of Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT) in Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ (DCIS) and to improve the understanding of the clinical, radiographic, and patient-related impact of adopting IORT.

Value of the Laparoscopic Approach in the Surgical Management of Resectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma...

Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma treated by laparotomy or laparoscopic Multicenter prospective, open, superiority, controlled, randomized, clinical trial The primary objective of the study will be to demonstrate the superiority of the laparoscopic approach over the open approach in reducing postoperative morbidity in HCC patients. Postoperative morbidity will be assessed using the Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) within 90 days postoperatively or at any time during hospitalization

Study of Avelumab and/or Radiation Therapy in People With Advanced Merkel Cell Carcinoma

Merkel Cell Carcinoma

This study will test the use of comprehensive ablative radiation therapy (CART), with the immunotherapy drug avelumab, in people with Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) that has progressed after treatment and cannot be removed with surgery. The study researchers want to find out if CART works well when combined with avelumab.

Study of Guanábana Leaves for The Treatment of Patients With Gastric, Gastroesophageal Junction,...

Gastric AdenocarcinomaAdenocarcinoma of the Gastroesophageal Junction4 more

Guanabana, known also as Graviola or Annona muricata is a tropical fruit which has been commonly used as complimentary/alternative medicine in Latin American countries. The main compounds in Graviola are the annonaceous acetogenins. These acetogenins have been shown to be selective and toxic against various types of cancer cells in-vitro and in-vivo experimental animal models. In spite of this evidence of anti tumor activity of Graviola, no prospective clinical studies have been carried out to determine if it also has clinical activity. The Investigator have observed two patients at Auxilio Mutuo Cancer Center who experienced significant tumor shrinkage while taking a tea made of Graviola leaves. Neither of these patients were taking any other treatment for their cancer. The investigator propose to conduct a study using guanabana leaves extract in patients with Gastroesophageal junction(GEJ) adenocarcinoma, as well as in Gastric adenocarcinoma, Hepatocellular carcinoma, Pancreatic adenocarcinoma, Low Grade Lymphomas and Colorectal adenocarcinoma.

Plasma Radiofrequency Ablation at Low Temperature Versus Electrocautery Block Resection at High...

SurgeryRecurrent Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

This study aims at exploring whether plasma radiofrequency ablation at low temperature is associated with better survival outcome in localized recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma by conducting a randomized controlled trial of plasma radiofrequency ablation at low temperature versus electrocautery block resection at high frequency for localized recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma. If the hypothesis is confirmed, it is expected to provide a convenient choice for the surgical treatment of localized recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
