Urothelial Carcinoma

Mocetinostat is an orally administered histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. This study is a Phase 2 trial evaluating the efficacy of mocetinostat in patients that have advanced urothelial carcinoma that has specific changes in tumor genes. Patients must have previously received treatment with chemotherapy that included a "platinum-containing agent" such as cisplatin. The study will enroll in stages, with 15 patients in the first stage. More patients will be added to the study if enough patients having beneficial responses are observed. Mocetinostat will be administered using oral capsules three times each week (eg, Monday, Wednesday and Friday). The study is designed to evaluate whether the number of patients responding to treatment is substantially higher than would be expected with other available treatments.

Randomized Pilot Study of Treatment for BCC Using the Multiplex 595/1064 nm Laser

Nodular Basal Cell CarcinomaSuperficial Basal Cell Carcinoma

Laser therapy for basal cell carcinoma may be a superior option for patients who do not wish to or cannot tolerate other treatment modalities such as topical chemotherapeutics or surgery. In this pilot study, we will preliminarily assess the efficacy and safety of the 595/1064 nm Multiplex laser when treating superficial and nodular basal cell carcinomas less than 1.5 cm in size. This is an unblinded study in which patients will be randomized to either a treatment arm or a control arm. Patients in the treatment arm will receive three treatments with the 595/1064 nm multiplex laser spaced four weeks apart. The control group will visit the clinic with the same schedule as the treatment group for monitoring of the lesion. All patients will return one month after last treatment session or clinical visit, for evaluation of clinical and histological clearance.

This phase II trial studies the side effects of LET-IMPT and standard chemotherapy, and how well they work in treating patients with newly diagnosed stage I-III anal canal squamous cell cancer. LET-IMPT is a type of radiation therapy that uses high energy proton "beamlets" to "paint" the radiation dose into the target and may help to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving LET-IMPT and standard chemotherapy may work better in treating patients with anal canal squamous cell cancer.

As our population ages and we diagnose early lung cancer in patients who cannot undergo surgery due to multiple medical conditions, there is growing interest in minimally invasive modalities to treat these tumors. In this study we are assessing the ability of bronchoscopic laser ablation to kill the cancer cells in these tumors. Patients will undergo bronchoscopy (a tube-like instrument inserted through the mouth to view the inside of the trachea, air passages, and lungs). A thin catheter will be passed through the wind-pipes and into the lung tumor with computed tomography guidance. A laser probe is then passed through this catheter and it is used to destroy the tumor with heat. Patients will then undergo lung surgery with resection of the tumor, and the resected specimen will be reviewed to describe the amount of tumor-kill produced by the laser.
