The Regression of Liver Fibrosis and Risk for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (ROLFH) Study

Chronic Hepatitis CChronic Hepatitis B

This study aims to demonstrate that patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and B (CHB) experiencing regression of liver cirrhosis after effective antiviral therapy have decreased risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Primary aim is to determine the incidence of HCC in patients with cirrhosis secondary to CHC and CHB, after treatment is provided, and to identify the magnitude of the decreased risk for HCC in patients experiencing regression of fibrosis. As a secondary aim, environmental risk factors for HCC development will be sought, in order to determine a subset of patients in whom it will be safe to stop surveillance.

Stereotactic Image-Guided Navigation During Breast Reconstruction in Patients With Breast Cancer...

Ductal Breast Carcinoma in SituLobular Breast Carcinoma in Situ8 more

Many hospitals, including the Ohio State University Medical Center, will take pictures of the blood vessels in a patient's abdomen before they decide to perform a breast reconstruction using the patient's own tissue. These pictures are called computed tomography (CT) angiograms and are like a map of each patient's anatomy. However, no study has been reported that determined how accurate these pictures are at showing the surgeon where all of the blood vessels were located. This study will try to determine if these pictures are missing any blood vessels that are found during surgery and if the pictures show the correct location of the vessels

Same-day Versus Separate-day Preoperative Consultation for Mohs Surgery

Non-melanoma Skin CancerSquamous Cell Carcinoma of Skin1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine whether separate- versus same-day preoperative consultation affects time to treatment (start to finish), utilization rate of Mohs, rate of case cancellations, cost, and patient satisfaction. The investigators hypothesize that patients with same-day preoperative consultation will have a shorter time between cancer diagnosis and removal but, only when coordination of care is needed, longer time between removal and consultation with other specialists, as compared to patients with separate-day consultation. The investigators anticipate that patients with same-day preoperative consultation will have a decrease in travel cost as compared to patients with separate-day consultation. The investigators expect that there will be no difference in various satisfaction matters between groups, with the exception of potentially greater convenience reported by patients in the same-day preoperative consultation group. Finally, the investigators hypothesize that there will be no difference between groups in regards to rates of surgery cancellation.

A Study to Estimate Overall Survival in Patients Receiving Best Supportive Care for Treatment-Resistant,...

Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma

The primary objective of this study is to estimate overall survival in patients only receiving best supportive care (BSC) for treatment-resistant, metastatic colorectal carcinoma. The primary efficacy outcome is overall survival, defined as the time from the date of the radiographic scan demonstrating disease progression post available treatments (time of origin, T0) to death from any cause.

FDGal PET/CT to Detect Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular CarcinomaLiver Cirrhosis1 more

Liver cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among Asian men. If diagnosed early the disease is treatable with surgery. Current conventional imaging modalities have limitations to early detection. This study proposes to use 18F-FGal and 18F-FDG PET/CT scans to compare the clinical efficacy of diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma (a type of liver cancer) using these PET/CT scans.

An Exploratory Correlative Study of Biomarkers in Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma...

CarcinomaRenal Cell

Purpose: The purpose of the correlative studies is to evaluate levels of serum factors of circulating VEGF and soluble VEGFR, circulating tumor cells and circulating endothelial cells assayed at baseline and over the course of initial treatment in order to explore relationships with baseline patient factors, measurable disease response and clinical progression. Hypothesis soluble markers of angiogenic growth factors and receptors, and circulating endothelial and tumor cells can serve as markers for biologic activity of temsirolimus and/or sorafenib.
