Anti-inflammatory Effect of Therapeutic Hypothermia in Out-hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients With...

Cardiac Arrest

Acute myocardial infarction complicated with cardiogenic shock trigger IL-6, the strong inflammatory response, result in multiple organ failure, even death. While therapeutic hypothermia,to expect the possibility of anti-inflammatory effect via IL-6 bi-phasic effect and IL-10 , to improve the multiple organ failure, to increase survival rate and well cerebral performance.

Pediatric Resuscitation With Feedback CPR Devices

Cardiac Arrest

The aim of this study was to compare the TrueCPR feedback device (with metronome) to standard basic life support (BLS) in terms of the quality of single rescuer pediatric resuscitation. Therefore, our hypothesis was that there would be no difference between both CPR methods in terms of chest compression quality parameters.

Pediatric Endotracheal Intubation

Cardiac ArrestIntubation1 more

We hypothesized that the McGrath MAC EMS is beneficial for intubation of pediatric manikins while performing CPR. In the current study, we compared effectiveness of the McGrath MAC EMS and MIL laryngoscopes in child resuscitation with and without CC.

Temperature Control With an Esophageal Cooling Device in Post Cardiac Arrest Patients

Anoxic Brain InjuryCardiac Arrest

This is a prospective, interventional study aiming to assess the effectiveness of the Esophageal Cooling Device (ECD) as a temperature control modality in post cardiac arrest patients. In addition, observed adverse events during ECD use, ease-of-use, nurse satisfaction and patient outcomes will be examined.

Etomidate Versus Ketamine for Emergency Endotracheal Intubation: a Prospective Randomized Clinical...

Cardiopulmonary ArrestRespiratory Arrest

Patients who are having problems breathing sometimes require placement of a breathing tube in their mouth and windpipe. The purpose of this breathing tube is to save the patient's life. It is common to give the patient a medication to sedate him or her before the breathing tube is placed. For patients who are gravely ill two medications are commonly used: etomidate or ketamine. Both medications have risks and benefits. Researchers at UT-Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital would like to do a study to figure out which one is better for our patients.

Mild Versus Moderate Therapeutic Hypothermia in Out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients

Cardiac Arrest

This trial is currently a single-center, randomized, double-blind investigator initiated prospective clinical trial initiated at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). The plan is to expand the trial shortly as a multi-center project. The patients for this study will be recruited amongst comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The aim of this study is to determine whether neurologic outcomes at six months are improved with moderate (31 degrees Celsius) versus mild (34 degrees Celsius) therapeutic hypothermia (TH) following return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients suffering OHCA, with ROSC defined as the resumption of sustained perfusing cardiac activity. The primary outcome will be the proportion of patients experiencing death or a poor neurologic outcome at six months after out of hospital cardiac arrest.

Time-differentiated Therapeutic Hypothermia

Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest

The purpose of this study is to determine if 48 hours of mild therapeutic hypothermia following out of hospital cardiac arrest gives a better cerebral outcome compared to 24 hours therapeutic hypothermia.

I-Gel in Out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest in Norway

Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest

The main objective of this trial is to compare the effectiveness of a newer supraglottic airway method (the i-Gel), compared to current airway management practice in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests treated by Norwegian ambulance services.

Therapeutic Hypothermia With IntraVascular Temperature Management (IVTM) in Post-Cardiogenic Cardiac...

Cardiac Arrest

A multicenter, single-arm, prospective, interventional trial to evaluate therapeutic hypothermia with intravascular temperature management (IVTM) in post-cardiogenic cardiac arrest, post-return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) patients in Japan. The objective of this study is to verify that therapeutic hypothermia performed by intravascular cooling using the investigational device (IVTM) can control body temperature appropriately in post-cardiogenic cardiac arrest, post-ROSC patients.

Resuscitative EndoVascular Aortic Occlusion for Maximal Perfusion

Cardiac Arrest

REBOA is an endovascular technique that is becoming more widely used in the setting of severe trauma. It is a procedure where one uses the seldigner technique to advance a balloon tipped catheter into the femoral artery and then into the aorta. The balloon is then inflated to fully occlude blood flow to the distal aorta. Study investigators hypothesize that this technique may be of use in the setting of medical cardiac arrest. By occluding the aorta and preventing distal blood flow during CPR, physicians might maximize perfusion to the heart and the brain, and promote return of spontaneous circulation and neurologic recovery. Investigators plan to conduct an IDE approved early feasibility study using the ER-REBOA catheter in five patients who are in cardiac arrest of medical (i.e. non-traumatic) etiology. The primary outcomes will be feasibility and safety. Secondary outcomes will focus on procedural performance, hemodynamic response to aortic occlusion, and patient-centered outcome variables. Investigators plan to expand the study to an additional 15 patients if, after the initial five patients, the risk-benefit profile remains favorable.
