StressAnxiety2 more

Background: Infectious disease outbreaks have a psychological effect on the general population, and especially on health workers. Nurses who care for COVID-19 patients feel negative emotions, fear, and anxiety due to fatigue, discomfort, and helplessness due to high-intensity work. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the effect of EFT in the prevention of stress, anxiety, and burnout of nurses who have an important position in the fight against COVID-19. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: COVID-19 department of a university hospital in Istanbul Province, Turkey. Participants: The sample of the study consisted of nurses working on 80 COVID-19 cases. Methods: The investigators will recruit nurses who care for the patient infected with COVID-19 randomly allocated them to the intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 40) groups. EFT will apply to the experimental group with online access. Data will collect using the Introductory Characteristics Form, the Subjective Discomfort Unit Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Burnout Scale.

mHealth Mindfulness for Dementia Caregivers

Caregiver BurnoutStress1 more

The investigators will recruit 60 family caregivers of older adults with cognitive impairment or dementia to participate in a pilot feasibility and acceptability trial of Mindfulness Coach, an mHealth mobile application that delivers mindfulness therapy. Mindfulness Coach is a self-guided mHealth intervention designed to help individuals learn MT, an evidence-based treatment to enhance health, wellness and mental health. The app also offers a library of information about MT (e.g., "how to anchor participants' attention"), 12 audio-guided mindfulness exercises, and a catalog of additional exercises available for free. In addition to collecting data about the feasibility and acceptability of Mindfulness Coach with caregivers of patients with dementia or cognitive impairment, the investigators will also collect data on preliminary efficacy of Mindfulness Coach at relieving symptoms of caregiver burden, anxiety, stress and depression.

The Psychosocial Outcomes in Caregivers of Children With Food Allergy

Food Allergy in ChildrenCaregiver Burnout2 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate use of a mobile application (also commonly referred to as an app) designed to support caregivers of children with newly diagnosed food allergy. This study has 2 phases. In Phase 1, the researchers obtained feedback regarding use of mobile apps from caregivers who have been managing their child's food allergy for one year or more. The researchers then used this feedback to build a mobile app for caregivers of children with newly diagnosed food allergy. In Phase 2, the researchers will evaluate the mobile app during a 4-week evaluation period with a group of caregivers of children newly diagnosed with food allergy. The data obtained from this study will hopefully benefit caregivers of children with newly diagnosed food allergy.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Dementia Caregivers

Mindfulness Based Stress ReductionCaregiver Burnout5 more

Aims: The study will contribute to our understanding of how the cultivation of caregiver mindfulness might improve their overall relational well-being (Primary Outcome), their psychological well-being (Secondary Outcome), and have an impact on dementia patients' lifestyles (Other Outcome). Overall, this study will investigate the idea that the fruits of mindfulness training can be leveraged by both the caregiver and the care-recipient, improving the quality of relationship by making their interactions more mutual, connected, empathic and positive. This study aims to additionally elucidate which facets of mindfulness account for caregiver's happiness and psychological well-being. Sample: In this study 40 dementia caregivers will be recruited to participate; 20 will be allocated to the clinical intervention group (i.e., adapted MBSR for caregivers) and 20 to the active control group. Data will be collected pre-post the start of intervention, and at a 3 month follow up. Future orientation: This study may contribute to evidence-based knowledge concerning the efficacy of mindfulness based interventions to support caregiver empowerment, via regaining relationship satisfaction and achieving greater equanimity in the face of stressors.

Technologies to Reduce Caregiver Burden for Informal Caregivers of People With Dementia

Dementia

This randomized controlled trial aims to recruit a total of 320 dyads composed by persons with dementia living in community settings and their primary informal caregivers. In the intervention group, persons with dementia will have a home monitoring kit installed in the household while participants in the control group will receive their usual care. The kit includes home leaving sensors, smoke and water leak sensors, bed sensors as well as automatic lights that monitor the individual's behavior. Alerts (text message and/or phone call) will be sent to the caregiver if anything unusual occurs. All study participants will receive three home visits by project administrators that have received project specific training in order to harmonize data collection. These will take place at enrollment and 3 and 12 months following installation of the home kits. At every home visit, a standardized questionnaire will be administered to all study participants to assess their health, quality of life and resource utilization. The primary outcome of this trial is the amount of informal care support provided by primary informal caregivers to the Person with Dementia.
