Is Carotid-Vertebral Doppler Ultrasonography Necessary for Patients With Vertigo?

VertigoCarotid Artery Diseases

This study will be carried out prospectively on patients who applied to the cardiovascular surgery polyclinic and the carotid-vertebral artery doppler ultrasound due to the vascular problem. All patients will fill "Balance Disorder Scan Survey" and "Vertigo-Dizziness Imbalance Questionnaire-SS". Patients who score 1 and more are directed to the ear nose throat polyclinic and detailed differential diagnosis. Those who score 0 will be in control group.

Carotid Atherosclerosis and Vascular Events in People With Diabetes

Carotid Atherosclerosis

Diabetes is a risk factor for carotid atherosclerotic whose progression is associated with an increased risk of vascular events. Investigators assessed prospectively by arterial duplex ultrasonography the progression of carotid atherosclerosis in a cohort of people with diabetes to assess the importance of progression and to analyze the impact of this progression on vascular events. The main hypothesis is that people with carotid atherosclerosis progression are at higher risk of vascular events than those without any progression.

Relation of Circulating Endothelium-derived Microparticle to Carotid Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis

The investigators hypothesized that circulating endothelium-derived microparticle (EMP) may be a useful surrogate marker of atherosclerosis and future episode of cerebrovascular events. Peripheral blood is drawn at the time of carotid ultrasound examination. Circulating EMPs are counted using flow-cytometry. The correlation among circulating EMP, ultrasound findings, and atherosclerotic risk factors are determined by multiple stepwise regression analysis. The prevalence of cerebrovascular events is also determined during 3-year follow-up period.

CHOICE: Carotid Stenting For High Surgical-Risk Patients

Carotid Artery Disease

The purposes of this study is to 1) Provide additional information that the commercially available Abbott Vascular Carotid Stent Systems and Embolic Protection Systems can be used successfully by a wide range of physicians under commercial use conditions. 2) Provide an ongoing post-market surveillance mechanism for documentation of clinical outcomes and for possible extension of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) coverage to a broader group of patients.

Non-invasive Computer-Aided Phenotyping of Vasculopathy

Carotid AtherosclerosisPeripheral Arterial Disease

The investigators use MRI and/or CT to evaluate the extent, as well as, the structure, composition, and functional aspects of atherosclerotic plaques in human carotid and femoral arteries in patients scheduled to undergo an endarterectomy of the aforementioned vascular beds as part of their routine clinical care.
