The Prevalence of CTX Disorder in Juvenile Cataract Cases in Turkey

Cerebrotendinous Xanthomatosis

Epidemiologic observational study. Study will include two phases: Retrospective cross-sectional phase: At this stage of the study, retrospective screenings are carried out at study sites and all juvenile cataract cases are planned to be determined. Prospective phase: At this stage of the study, identified juvenile cataract cases as a result of retrospective screenings will be called to be invited to the sites and blood samples will be obtained for the cholestanol tests for the cases that have given Informed Consent. This observational study is designed in two phases; retrospective and prospective. Retrospective part includes screening the patient database and / or patient files at ophthalmology clinics participating in the study and identifying patients diagnosed with idiopathic juvenile cataracts. The data of patients with idiopathic juvenile cataracts will be reviewed and the data of the patients meeting the inclusion/exclusion criteria will be recorded. Once this phase is completed, the prospective phase of the study will start and the patients meeting the criteria will be invited to the site to participate in the study. Current data will be collected from the patients who agree to participate in the study and the clinical status of the patients will be evaluated according to the Mignarri index. In addition, blood will be obtained from all patients to diagnose CTX disease. Blood samples will be sent to Duzen Laboratories in Ankara and analyzed for cholestanol.

Non-genetic Risk Factors of Congenital Cataracts

Cataract

Prevention and treatment of the reversible childhood blindness, including congenital cataracts (CC), has been listed as a significant component of the international programme "VISION 2020 - the Right to Sight" launched by WHO in 1999. However, there is still a lot of unsolved problems regarding to CC, especially in developing countries, such as the delayed presentation and treatment to the hospitals, the lack of specialized treatment departments, and the poor treatment prognosis. With the two children policy opened in China in 2016, many CC parents hesitate to have a second child due to the potential high risk of CC. Date on detailed clinical characteristics of the CC children, including the demography, pregnancy-labor history, and living condition, are crucial for developing the national screening strategies of CC in Pregnant women. However, to our knowledge, it still lacks of thus large population-based and comprehensive investigations of the characteristics of CC children in developing countries.

Study of Comparison Between Pentacam and locs3

Cataract

Hypothesis: There is no difference between pentacam scheimpflug system and locs3 in grading of cataract. Major aims: research the efficiency of pentacam scheimpflug system in lens density measurment. To compare the pentacam with the locs3 in grading of cataract.

Outcome of Small Pupil Phacotrabeculectomy in Persons With Glaucoma and Cataract

GlaucomaCataract

Small pupils are not uncommon in situations requiring surgical intervention for glaucoma and cataract. Inadequate binocular view during combined trabeculaectomy and glaucoma surgery needs to be overcome by additional iris manupulations to dilate the pupils which increase the liklihood of inflammation, inraocular pressure rise after surgery and enhnced liklihood of failure of glaucoma surgery. The proposed trial is an observational study to analyse post operative outcome of eyes undrgoing trabeculectomy and phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation with small pupils in persons with glaucoma coexisting with cataract.
