The Effects of Daptomycin and Cytokines Production in Comparison With Vancomycin

Cellulitis

Primary: To determine the influence of daptomycin on inflammatory cytokine (IL-1, TNF and IL-6) for the treatment of complicated cellulitis/erysipela compared with alternative treatment (vancomycin or oxacillin). Secondary: To evaluate the clinical outcome of both groups according to levels of the cytokines evaluated.

Evaluation of Penetration of Ceftobiprole Into Soft Tissue Determined by Microdialysis in Healthy...

Staphylococcal Skin InfectionsStreptococcal Infections

The primary objective of this study is to measure the penetration of ceftobiprole into subcutaneous (s.c.) adipose tissue and skeletal muscle and to determine the concentration over time of ceftobiprole in these tissues and in plasma after administration of a single intravenous (i.v.) infusion (directly into the vein) of ceftobiprole 500 mg administered over 2 hours. The secondary objective was to further assess the safety and tolerability of ceftobiprole after a single i.v. infusion.

Bioequivalence Study for an Isotretinoin

Skin Infections (Acne)

The objective of this study was to confirm if two formulations of isotretionin (capsules) are bioequivalent. Test product was Oratane® 20 mg (Laboratorios Dermatológicos Darier) and reference product Roaccutan® 20 mg (Productos Roche). Two capsules administered together were the single dosage. The study was prospective, open-label, randomized, crossover, single dose, with 02 treatments, 02 sequences and 02 periods, under fed conditions. The population was composed of 36 healthy volunteers, male adults between 18-45 years. The comparative bioavailability of the two formulations was evaluated based in statistical comparisons of relevant pharmacokinetic parameters, obtained from data of drug concentrations in blood.

Oral Moxifloxacin Versus Cefazolin and Oral Probenecid in the Management of Skin and Soft Tissue...

Cellulitis

Patients often come to the emergency department with bacterial skin infections (known as "cellulitis"). Some patients with very severe infections are admitted to hospital for antibiotic treatment and some are sent home on oral antibiotics. Many patients have moderate infections and are treated as outpatients with daily intravenous antibiotics for 2-5 days. In this patient group it is unclear if treatment with oral antibiotics is as effective as intravenous antibiotics. The purpose of this study is to determine if treatment of moderate cellulitis with an intravenous antibiotic (cefazolin) for 3-5 days is as effective as treatment with an oral antibiotic (moxifloxacin). We hypothesize that the oral agent will be as effective as intravenous treatment for moderate cellulitis.

Effect of Vibro-oscillatory Therapy for Improvement of Body Contour and Appearance of Cellulite....

Body Fat DistributionCellulitis

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of vibro-oscillatory therapy through an electromedical equipment in improving body contour and appearance of cellulite. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A prospective and comparative longitudinal clinical study will be performed in 30 women with cellulitis. Patients will be submitted to data collection and evaluation and before and after vibration-oscillatory therapy. HYPOTHESES: Patients are expected to show improvement in body contour and cellulite after vibration-oscillatory therapy. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: A descriptive analysis will be done before and after vibration-oscillatory therapy, with frequency tables for categorical and descriptive variables (mean, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values) for continuous or numerical variables. In order to compare the main variables between the groups and the collection times, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures will be used. Tukey's test will be used to compare the groups. The significance level adopted for the statistical tests will be 5% or p <0.05.

Motorized Mechanical Massage Associated With Cosmetics in Improving Body Contour and Appearance...

Cellulitis of Leg

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of motorized mechanical massage associated with cosmetics in improving body contour and appearance of gynoid lipodystrophy. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A prospective and comparative longitudinal clinical study will be performed in 30 women with localized fat and gynoid lipodystrophy. Patients will be submitted data collection and assessments and before and after treatment. HYPOTHESES: It is expected that the patients will present improvement in the body contour and in the picture of the gynoid lipodystrophy after the association of the therapies. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: A descriptive analysis will be done before and after vibration-oscillatory therapy, with frequency tables for categorical and descriptive variables (mean, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values) for continuous or numerical variables. In order to compare the main variables between the groups and the collection times, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measurements will be used. Tukey's test will be used to compare groups. The level of significance adopted for the statistical tests will be 5% or p <0.05.

Far-IR Emitted by Compression Stockings for Cellulitis Treatment

CellulitisQuality of Life

This is a randomized and controlled study to investigate if the far-IR radiation emitted by compression stockings fabric may be effective and safe as adjuvant treatment for cellulitis that affects the majority of women after puberty. The investigators expect that the far-IR effects on superficial microcirculation, deep dermis and subcutaneous fat may attenuate the clinical aspect of cellulitis.

Continuous Regional Anesthesia for Septic Limb Orthopedic Surgery

Osteo ArthritisCellulitis

This study aims to assess the safety of using continuous regional anesthesia for post-operative analgesia during septic limb orthopedic surgery. The study hypothesis is that continuous regional anesthesia would not induce septic complication in the operated limb and could improve post-operative recovery.

Penicillin for the Emergency Department Outpatient Treatment of CELLulitis

CellulitisWound Infection1 more

The main objective of this study is to investigate the non-inferiority of oral flucloxacillin alone compared with a combination of oral flucloxacillin and phenoxymethylpenicillin for the emergency department directed outpatient treatment of cellulitis, wound infections and abscesses, recently renamed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSIs). Half of the trial participants will receive flucloxacillin and placebo in combination, and the remaining half will be treated will flucloxacillin and phenoxymethylpenicillin. In a secondary objective the trial aims to measure adherence and persistence of trial patients with outpatient antibiotic therapy. In addition a within-trial evaluation of the cost per quality adjusted life year (QALY) gained from the use of oral flucloxacillin compared with combination therapy from the perspective of the health-care payer (direct costs) the patient and government. Finally the study will externally validate the Extremity Soft Tissue Infection-score, a Health Related Quality of Life (HRQL) questionnaire designed to quantify the impact of cellulitis, wound infections and abscesses on patient HRQL in clinical trials.
