E-coaching for Type 2 Diabetes

Abdominal ObesityType 2 Diabetes

Abdominal obesity and its metabolic consequences, particularly type 2 diabetes, require personalized nutritional monitoring. Today, it is not always possible to provide patients with appropriate care to both, the diet plan, physical activity, stress and sleep management. Emerging data have shown the effectiveness of remote support (e- coaching), in order to increase the level of physical activity and reducing calorie intake which causes weight loss similar to that obtained during a face to face consultation. Compared to a food survey conducted by a dietician, the dietary survey MXS computer software showed similar results on the collection of nutritional data. Furthermore, users preferred this method of remote collection compared to direct interview. The investigators recently developed a tool for e-coaching combining this computerized dietary survey and education and support modules on diet and physical activity (MXS- health program) for the patients. The aim of the investigators' study is to compare efficacy of this new software vs usual care.

Exercise and Diet Intervention Attenuated Inflammation Through ASC Gene and Inflammatory Markers...

Inflammatory ResponseObesity3 more

Background: Obesity is one of the most important health problems worldwide, several factors related to lifestyle as physical inactivity and unbalanced diets increase their development. This condition is characterized by low-chronic inflammation by excess of adipose tissue. The apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain (ASC) protein is part of NLRP3 inflammasome, a complex related to inflammation and metabolic alterations. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of physical exercise program on ASC gene expression and inflammatory markers in obese adults. Methods: 37 obese individuals were randomized to exercise-diet group or diet-group during a 4-month follow-up period. The dietary evaluation was analyzed by Nutritionist Pro software. Body composition was evaluated by bioimpedance (InBody 370). All biochemical determinations were analyzed by dry chemistry (Vitros 350). ASC messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression was performed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using Taqman probes and by the 2-ΔΔcq quantification method. Cytokine levels was performed using the Bio-PlexPro™ HumanTh17Cytokine Assays (MagPix) panel. Statistical analysis was performed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) v.22 software.

Pilot Study With GFT505 (80mg) in Patients Presenting With Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Abdominal...

Impaired Glucose ToleranceAbdominal Obesity

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of GFT505 80mg compared with placebo in improving Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), in patients with impaired glucose tolerance and abdominal obesity, and to assess the tolerability and safety of once-a-day administrations of oral doses of GFT505 during 35 days.

Treatment of Adiposity Related hypErTension (TARGET)

HypertensionAbdominal Obesity1 more

High blood pressure (hypertension) is an important cause of myocardial infarction and stroke. High blood pressure often occurs in people who are overweight. These people frequently also have abnormal fat and sugar metabolism. The combination of these problems is called the 'metabolic syndrome'. People with hypertension and obesity currently receive the same drug therapy as people with hypertension, but without obesity. Different classes of drugs are thought to be equally effective in lowering blood pressure. Next to lowering blood pressure, hypertension treatment can have additional effects, like changes in blood vessel function (the ability to dilate and constrict) or changes is the metabolism of sugar and fat. Particularly in patients with the metabolic syndrome, these additional effects are thought to be of great importance, because they can influence the risk for cardiovascular diseases. The blood pressure lowering mechanism differs between classes of blood pressure lowering medication. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of three types of blood pressure lowering medication belonging to different classes. The main outcomes of interest will be blood vessel function (the ability to dilate and constrict) and blood pressure. Moreover, the effect of treatment on additional outcomes, like metabolism of sugar and fat, will be studied.

Effect of Probiotic Co-administration With Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Obesity Parameters and Insulin...

ObesityInsulin Resistance3 more

Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host. Omega-3 fatty acids belong to the family of polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are known to exert a strong positive influence on metabolism and inflammation. The data from animal studies suggested that both probiotics and omega-3 can affect body weight, influence on glucose and fat metabolism, improve insulin sensitivity and reduce chronic systemic inflammation. In respect to experimental data, the current study aim was to provide double-blind single center RCT, for study the efficacy of co-administration of probiotic with omega-3 vs. placebo in type 2 diabetes patient

Effects of Electrical Muscle Stimulation on Waist Circumference in Adults

Abdominal Obesity

This randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, controlled study was designed to investigate the efficacy of electrical muscle simulation (EMS) for treatment of waist circumference (WC) reduction in abdominal obese adults. 60 patients with abdominal obese, man with WC > 90 cm and woman with WC > 80 cm, received EMS as experimental group (EG) or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) as control group (CG) 5 times a week for 12 weeks.
