The Effect of Specific Strength-Training on Tension-Type Headache in Children 9-17 Years

This study aims at examining muscle strength capacity in neck and shoulder muscles in children and adolescents with and without tension-type headache, and furthermore examining the effect of a 10 week specific strength training programme for neck and shoulder muscles compared to a multi-disciplinary approach in 10 weeks.

Migraine headaches have previously been shown to be responsive to intranasal lidocaine in a small study. Using a nebulizer to administer the drug would improve the feasibility of using the treatment. It would also spare the patient narcotics with their attendant side effects. Because of the potential for placebo effect a placebo control is necessary in this study.

Migraine Without Aura

This is a a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, and placebo controlled, two-arm study of a single oral dose of NXN-188 for the treatment of acute migraine headache without aura. Up to 120 migraineurs will be enrolled. Approximately 60 subjects having a headache history of migraine without aura will complete each of the two treatment arms to evaluate NXN-188 600 mg or placebo.

Migraine is a common neurological condition that can be disabling, particularly if chronic. Greater occipital nerve (GON) block has been utilized for decades for the treatment of migraine in the absence of a single randomized, placebo-controlled trial documenting its effectiveness. Hypothesis: Greater occipital nerve block reduces the frequency of days with moderate or severe headache in patients with episodic or chronic migraine.

An Open Label Study Using Consecutive Intravenous Depacon With Oral Depakote ER for the Treatment...

Cluster Headache

The purpose of this study is to collect and evaluate information on the use of Depakote Extended Release (ER) and Depacon Intravenous (IV) in patients with cluster headaches. Patients who are currently in a cluster cycle will be treated with 2 consecutive days of IV Depacon followed by oral Depakote ER. Patients will receive a total of 1,000mg of Depacon and 1,000mg of Depakote ER each day. Patients may have a 3rd day of IV Depacon followed by oral Depakote ER if the primary investigator believes it to be beneficial. The patient is then sent home on oral Depakote ER. The dose of Depakote ER can range from 500mg to 2,000mg this dose is to be determined by the primary investigator. The patient will continue the oral Depakote ER until the end of their cluster cycle or for a maximum of 6 weeks, which ever comes first.

A Research Study to Examine the Difference Between Local Anesthetics Alone and Local Anesthetics...

Migraine

Subjects are scheduled to undergo a Greater Occipital Nerve Block (GONB) as treatment for your chronic daily headache (CDH). GONB has been used for many years in the treatment of headaches. The nerve block is done by injecting a liquid drug through the skin of the back of the head to the area of the greater occipital nerve. The nerve runs superficially in this area, therefore the drugs are injected just under the skin. The injected drugs block electrical transmission through the nerve, resulting in reduced head pain. There are treatment options for patients receiving a GONB, however, some clinicians use local anesthetics (lidocaine and /or bupivicaine) alone, and some use local anesthetics with local steroid injection. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether or not there is an observed difference between these two treatment approaches for GONB. We expect to enroll 60 patients into this research study at Thomas Jefferson University only.
