Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) is one form of disease of the small vessels of the brain and can cause frequent cerebral hemorrhages as well as other types of stroke. The aim of the research was to examine the balance of the body in patients after a stroke and to determine how the tension of selected muscles of the cervical spine changes under the conditions of statics and dynamics, depending on the visual control or its absence.

Transient focal neurological episode (TFNE) is the most frequent presenting symptom of convexity subarachnoid haemorrhage (cSAH) in elderly patients with non-traumatic cSAH with suspected, possible or probable cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). The aim of our study was to analyse in detail clinical and MRI characteristics in these patients. Methods: We performed a retrospective study analysing baseline, acute clinical symptom (TFNE and headache), and MRI characteristics (acute cSAH and chronic CAA features) of consecutive elderly (≥55 years) patients, recruited and registered in the stroke database, between june 2008 and october 2020 of two centres (Nîmes and Montpellier University Hospital, France), presenting with cSAH with suspected, possible, or probable CAA.

MRI studies of these infarcts are rare. They are described as punctate, cortical silent. Frequency and pathophysiology is poorly understood. The investigators put the question of a link with hemorrhagic lesions of the AAC.

Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

Florbetapir F 18 is an experimental radioactive drug that may allow doctors to image changes in the brain using a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanner. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the imaging characteristics of, Florbetapir F 18 (also known as 18F-AV-45) in patients who have previously undergone bleeding in their brains. Florbetapir F 18 binds to amyloid-ß peptide (Aß) that accumulates in the brains of patients with bleeding. These accumulations are called amyloid plaques and when extensive are labeled cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Florbetapir F 18 sticks to the amyloid plaques in the brain and emits a low level of gamma rays which can be detected by a PET camera. MRI detected microbleeds have been identified as markers of clinically silent hemorrhage from bleeding-prone vessels. Another imaging marker of vessel damage and risk of bleeding is the spot sign (SS). Finally, certain genetic signatures (ApoE genotype) have been shown to be associated with Aß deposition in the brain or predispose patients to higher risks of bleeding. This research study will explore the interactions of these factors and understand the physiology of intracerebral bleeding.
