A Study on Safety of tDCS One-shot in UCP

Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

The study aims to evaluate the safety and the feasibility of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) session in children and young adults with Unilateral Cerebral Palsy (UCP). Secondarily it aims to test the effects of tDCS (real vs sham) in improving, in very short term, Upper Limb (UL) functions.

Medication Management Among Individuals With Neurodevelopmental Disabilities

Spina BifidaCerebral Palsy

This is a pilot study to develop a reinforcement learning (RL)-adaptive visual and interactive support application (hereafter RL-adaptive support) to help young adults with spina bifida or cerebral palsy become more independent with medication management. Individuals with disabilities who are empowered to manage several aspects of their lives can ultimately be better integrated into and contribute more to society.

Use of Low Cost Prostheses to Improve Upper Extremity Function in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral PalsyProsthesis User

The purpose of the study is to assess the effectiveness of an upper extremity prosthesis in improving the upper extremity function of children with cerebral palsy who have limited use of their hands. Twelve children, aged 4-17 years, who have cerebral palsy and limitations in their ability to use their hands, will be enrolled. All participants will be fitted with a 3D printed arm/hand prosthesis and receive 8 occupational therapy sessions. Each subject will be evaluated pre-treatment, post-occupational therapy sessions and at 6 months follow-up. The evaluation will include assessment of (1)passive and active arm/hand movement and (2)functional hand skills using several standardized tests. The results from the pre-treatment and the two post-treatment evaluations will be compared.

VR Error Augmentation for Bimanual Task Exercise

HemiparesisCerebral Palsy1 more

This project is a continuing study from the FEATHERS project (NCT02290353) which focuses on developing novel home therapy program for persons with hemiparesis. This study will focus on examining motor behaviour and adaptation in neurodevelopmental hemiparesis (cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury (ABI)). New algorithms for motion control involved in encouraging active movement are developed and will be tested, but the study has the same therapeutic goal and focus as the original FEATHERS project of creating an engaging at-home bimanual upper limb training program. By incorporating existing gaming technology, we hope to discover novel ways to adapt commercial motion tracking controllers and visual feedback into engaging rehabilitative learning tools. This study will focus on a basic science aspect of human bimanual movements that can be incorporated into future applications of the full FEATHERS project devices. We believe that together these approaches will yield interventions that significantly improve functional ability and lead to improved quality of life.

Effect of Plyometric Exercises on Upper Extremity Function in Children With Unilateral Cerebral...

Sports Physical Therapy

Plyometric training includes muscle contraction that moves rapidly from the eccentric to the concentric phase of movement while using proper biomechanics. It is an effective neuromuscular stimulus that can improve motor functions of children with CP. In plyometric training, muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power.

Augmented Reality to Reduce Pain During Botulinum Toxin Injections in Cerebral-palsied Children...

Cerebral Palsy

Children with cerebral palsy may benefit from treatment with botulinum toxin injections to decrease spasticity for improve function and quality of life. These injections cause repeated pain throughout childhood and may be the cause of post-traumatic stress despite drug and non-drug pain management. The Mini-Docs project of the French Red Cross has a module based on a digital device with augmented reality. Distracting the child, the use of this module on a tablet would reduce pain felt during botulinum toxin injections.

Whole Body Vibration in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral PalsySpastic

Some positive effects of whole body vibration applications in reducing spasticity, improving walking ability, and increasing walking speed have been reported in children with CP, but the evidence is not strong enough. Therefore, this study was planned to evaluate the effect of whole body vibration treatment on spasticity, gait, balance, and motor performance in children with spastic CP. This study hypothesis that whole body vibration provides an additive improvement on spasticity, balance, gait and motor performance.

Individualized Comprehensive Home-Centred Activity Based Therapy for Children With Diplegic Cerebral...

Diplegic Cerebral Palsy

Activity based therapy is gaining interest for rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy (CP). A home-based comprehensive programme structured on the principles of activity based therapy seems to hold promise in the field of rehabilitation of children with diplegic CP.This may reduce morbidity as well as promote better quality of life in these children . In this backdrop our study has been planned with an aim to evaluate the efficacy of a comprehensive home-centred activity based programme for children with diplegic CP.
