Effect of DBS on Quality of Life in Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy

Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy Due to Perinatal Hypoxia

There are limited therapeutical options for patients with secondary dystonia due to cerebral palsy. Pharmacotherapy is often without effect, or side effects are severe. Meanwhile deep brain stimulation (DBS) has proven to be a safe and effective therapy for patients with parkinson´s disease or primary / idiopathic dystonia. Experiences with DBS in patients with dyskinetic cerebral palsy are limited with heterogeneous data. With STIM-CP we investigate the effect of DBS on quality of life in young patients with a dyskinetic movement disorder (dyskinetic cerebral palsy) due to perinatal hypoxic brain injury. Additionally, the effect of DBS on motor development, speech, memory, attention, cognition and pain perception will be assessed.

Impact of Listening to Low Tones on Motor Function in Children With CP

Cerebral PalsyHypertonia

The study aims to evaluate the impact of a possible new treatment for hypertonia, contributing to the motor disability in children with cerebral palsy (CP). This study follows a 2005-2006 pilot study, that demonstrate a significant motor improvement in 4 children exposed to low tones via stereophonic Headphones.(A possible mechanism is a deep brain stimulation outspreading from the auditory pathways in certain tones) The goal of this study is to perform a double blind randomized placebo-controlled trial (RCT) on 30 children. A three-arm study, with one group receiving the proposed treatment-music with low tones and the other two groups receiving a placebo (music without tones or stories) will be performed. clinical and a non invasive laboratory measurements (surface EMG) related to spasticity, active and passive range of movement, isometric strength and upper and lower body function would be measured both before and after the treatment .the assessments will include also a Visual assessment , evaluation of gaze coordination and a quality of life and a caretaker burden questionnaires.

QoL and Stress in Parents of Children With Developmental Disabilities and Chronic Disease

Developmental DisabilityChronic Disease9 more

The aim of this cross-sectional study is to investigate the level of stress and quality of life in parents of children with developmental disabilities (Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, cerebral palsy) and parents of children chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus type 1, epilepsy, asthma) compared to parents of healthy children. The investigators will analyze the level of stress, quality of life, self-esteem, optimism, resilience, happiness, stigmatization, depression, anxiety, sleep quality, parenting challenges and some physiological indicators of the stress such as level of cortisol and heart rate variability. Also, the investigators will measure Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) in the skin. The investigators assume that parents of children with developmental disabilities and chronic diseases have higher level of stress and lower quality of life compared to the parents of healthy children.

ePrime: Evaluation of Magnetic Resonance (MR) Imaging to Predict Neurodevelopmental Impairment in...

Cerebral Palsy

Preterm infants face an uncertain future because premature birth often leads to problems with brain development and can cause cerebral palsy. A trial needs to be done to see if Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) helps families and professionals by predicting long term problems more accurately, allowing better targeting of care to children with problems and reassuring the parents of normal babies. This programme will provide the evidence-base for the National Health System (NHS) policy on the use of magnetic resonance imaging of the brain for preterm infants.

Influence of Fatigue on the Walking Pattern in Cerebral Palsy Patients.

Cerebral Palsy

To date, studies do not study the influence of external disturbing factors on the market. The main hypothesis is that the stopping of walking in paralyzed cerebral patients is mainly due to an increase in the energy cost of walking. The secondary objectives are to study the causes of the increase in the energy cost of walking (modification of muscle coordination / increase of co-activations, loss of strength, etc.). This study will use the GRAIL combining an instrumented treadmill, a motion capture system (Vicon System), an electromyographic system as well as a virtual environment projected on a 180 ° screen
