The Effect of the CO-OP Approach for Children With Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral PalsyCognitive OrientationIn the literature, despite the reported positive findings of the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach, studies in this area have been limited and it is stated that studies involving more sample groups are needed (24-27). In addition, no studies investigating the effect of the CO-OP approach on functional status were found. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of CO-OP approach in terms of occupational performance and satisfaction also functional status in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and to determine parents' satisfaction level from CO-OP. The hypotheses of the study are: The CO-OP approach has no effect on occupational performance in children with CP. CO-OP approach has no effect on occupational satisfaction in children with CP. The CO-OP approach has no effect on the functional status of children with CP.

Virtual Rehabilitation Innovations for Motivation
Virtual RehabilitationCP (Cerebral Palsy)3 moreChildren and young people with movement difficulties such as Cerebral Palsy (CP) and Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) report that traditional therapies are highly repetitive and labourious. This influences enjoyment and participation in regular therapy programmes and may result in reduced adherence to therapy or exercise regimes, limiting effectiveness. This study will build on the team's previous work to explore the potential use of Virtual-Reality (VR) technologies in rehabilitation; particularly systems that can be used at home to increase accessibility and reduce need to attend clinics for therapy. During the co-production events of the VR4REHAB Inter Regional North West Europe (NWE) funded programme in 2018, young people desired the use of commercial games for therapeutic purposes. This work has enabled connections between affordable computer technologies: the Raspberry Pi, VR headsets and freely available commercial games. This 2-Phased project is therefore exploring the potential of commercially available virtual reality (VR) systems consoles and games for use in rehabilitation programmes. The Investigators hope to gain information on: Whether commercially produced VR games can provide a motivating environment to support adherence to therapy Whether it is possible to improve reaching and grasp-release hand movements through this method Gain an understanding of the ages of children and young people most likely to benefit from home-based VR therapy User evaluation and performance data and therapist evaluations will be collected and compared to baseline data to provide information on usability, accessibility, acceptability and adaptability.

Cerebral PalsyRoboticsA total of 26 patients who were diagnosed with CP [diplegic, with Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) level of 2-5] and who regularly participated in a rehabilitation programme were included in the study after obtaining approval from their parents. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups. Group 1 (n = 13) received conventional therapy (65 min, 2 days/week ×8) and group 2 (n = 13) received 25 minutes of robot-assisted gait training (RoboGait®) in addition to conventional therapy (40 min, 2 days/week ×8).

Pain Assessment in Children Undergoing Spine Surgery
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisCerebral PalsyMusculoskeletal (MSK) pain is one of the most common types of pain among children and adolescents. Recurring episodes of MSK pain conditions have a major impact on the daily lives. Children and adolescents with neuromuscular diseases are often unable to report the pain the patients experience because of intellectual and/or physical limitations. There is no reason to believe that pain is any less frequent or intense in these patients than in normally developing patients. Because of the elusive nature of pain in non-verbal children, therapeutic decisions are frequently based on vague proxy measures of pain and revert to a series of trials and errors. This project creates a unique opportunity to directly characterize and compare MSK and surgical pain subjectively in two different patient samples (verbal and non-verbal). The ultimate goal is to use this information to offer the highest quality of pain control in children with MSK conditions, and more specifically in children with limited communication skills unable to communicate their distress associated with the surgical procedural.

Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral PalsyCerebral Palsy (CP) is a disorder of the development of movement and posture, causing activity limitations attributed to nonprogressive disturbances of the fetal or infant brain that may also affect sensation, perception, cognition, communication, and behavior. Motor control during reaching, grasping, and walking are disturbed by spasticity, dyskinesia, hyperreflexia, excessive coactivation of antagonist muscles, retained developmental reactions, and secondary musculoskeletal malformations, together with paresis and defective programing. Weakness and hypoextensibility of the muscles are due not only to inadequate recruitment of motor units, but also to changes in mechanical stresses and hormonal factors. As it affects the children, therefore it should be emphasized. Effect of Augmented Reality (AR) based therapeutic games on the range of motion, muscle strength,function of upper limb and balance of spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy children would be assessed through goniometer, manual muscle testing (MMT), disability of Arms, Shoulders, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, and Pediatric Berg Balance Scale, respectively.
