Using a Lay Health Worker Program to Increase Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening in Low-Income...

Breast CancerCervical Cancer

The primary purpose of this study is adapt the Cultivando la Salud (CLS) intervention for a new community and priority population and to train community health workers (promotoras) from the Prosalud promotora program to implement the adapted CLS breast and cervical cancer screening program. The adaptation and delivery of the CLS intervention program focuses on meeting the needs and supporting of CHWs and Hispanic/Latina women in the Greater Houston Area. Finally, this study aims to evaluate the process and effect of the adapted CLS program (renamed Salud en Mis Manos (SEMM) on increasing mammography and cervical cancer screening.

Cultivando la Salud: A Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Promotion Program for Low-Income Puerto...

Breast CancerCervical Cancer

The overall goal of this education program is to increase breast and cervical cancer screening in low-income women in Puerto Rico through implementation of an evidence-based educational program that addresses both health professionals (promotoras or community health workers) and public audiences of low-income women living in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico who have either never been screened for breast and/or cervical cancer, or are under-screened according recommended guidelines. To evaluate promotoras' delivery of the CLS screening education program we used a randomized pre-post comparison group study design that will provide data to determine the effectiveness of the CLS intervention program compared with usual practice (no intervention).

Study on the Efficacy and Safety of PEG-rhG-CSF in Preventing Neutropenia During Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy...

Cervical Cancer

This randomized controlled prospective study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of using (PEGylated Recombinant Human Granulocyte Stimulating Factor) PEG-rhG-CSF to prevent neutropenia during concurrent chemoradiotherapy of paclitaxel and cisplatin (TP) regimen for cervical cancer. To find out the best time to use PEG-rhG CSF, and to explore investigate the effect of PEG-rhG-CSF on long-term bone marrow function in the process of concurrent chemoradiotherapy, and finally to explore the clinical feasibility of using PEG-rhG-CSF to prevent neutropenia during concurrent chemoradiotherapy of TP regimen for cervical cancer.

Clinic-based Intervention to Promote Cervical Cancer Prevention Behaviors

Cervical Cancer

The project is a clinical behavioral research project based at University of Pennsylvania. The goal of this research is to design a brief clinic-based, Nurse Practitioner-guided, and theory-based health promotion intervention to enhance cervical cancer prevention among young women ages 18-26 living in economically disadvantaged urban communities. The investigators will evaluate the intervention for feasibility, acceptability and preliminary efficacy.

Evaluating Coaches of Older Adults for Cancer Care and Health Behaviors

Colorectal CancerBreast Cancer1 more

The overall goal of the COACH study is to conduct a comparative effectiveness trial to assess the effectiveness of trained, participant-designated health coaches versus traditional health education efforts on cancer screening among African American older adults. We hypothesize that members of older adults' extended families can be trained to be effective coaches who support them through the cancer control spectrum, i.e., prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment. This research objective is guided by the theoretical model of the PRECEDE-PROCEED conceptual framework that has been widely adopted in health promotion. The target jurisdictions for this study are Baltimore City (BC) and Prince George's County (PGC), Maryland. The study is anchored in community-based participatory research (CBPR) principles, involving community members in all its phases. The CBPR component is guided by Community Advisory Groups (CAGs) representing key stakeholders in the two jurisdictions. The CAGs are essential in determining the questions included in data collection instruments, mechanisms of recruitment, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of results within the target communities.

Varenicline or Nicotine Patch and Nicotine Gum in Helping Smokers in a Methadone Treatment Program...

Bladder CancerCervical Cancer9 more

RATIONALE: Varenicline, the nicotine patch, and nicotine gum help people stop smoking. It is not yet known whether varenicline is more effective than the nicotine patch given together with nicotine gum in helping smokers quit smoking. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying varenicline to see how well it works compared with the nicotine patch given together with nicotine gum in helping smokers in a methadone treatment program stop smoking.

FDG and FMISO PET Hypoxia Evaluation in Cervical Cancer

Cervical AdenocarcinomaCervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma6 more

This phase II trial is studying how well PET scans using fluoromisonidazole F 18 and fludeoxyglucose F 18 work in finding oxygen in tumor cells of patients undergoing treatment for newly diagnosed stage 1B, stage II, stage II, or stage IV cervical cancer. Diagnostic procedures using positron emission tomography (PET scan), fluoromisonidazole F 18, and fludeoxyglucose F 18 to find oxygen in tumor cells may help doctors predict how patients will respond to treatment.

Spectroscopy in Diagnosing Dysplasia and Neoplasia in the Cervix in Women Undergoing Colposcopy...

Cervical CancerPrecancerous Condition

RATIONALE: New diagnostic procedures, such as spectroscopy, may be a less invasive way to check for dysplasia and neoplasia in the cervix. Spectroscopy may also used as a screening test to help doctors find cervical cancer sooner, when it may be easier to treat. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well spectroscopy works in diagnosing dysplasia and neoplasia in the cervix in women undergoing colposcopy or Pap testing.

An Intervention Study To Improve Human PapillomaVirus ( HPV) Immunization in Haitian and African...

Cervical Cancer

In the United States, Black women are more likely to die of cervical cancer than White women. In developing countries and globally, Haitian immigrant women are more likely to die of cervical cancer than any other women in the world. Studies have shown a disparity in parental acceptance of the HPV vaccine with parents of Black adolescent girls being less likely to accept and comply with HPV immunization schedules than Whites. The objective of this study is to increase HPV immunization rates in Haitian and African American adolescent girls. The investigator's hypothesis is that a validated behavior change mechanism, brief-negotiating interviewing (BNI), will effectively increase the proportion of mothers who give consent for their daughters' HPV vaccine, which will ultimately lead to higher vaccination rates, and increase knowledge of HPV infection and the vaccine in Haitian immigrant and African American mothers.
